Job Description
SALARY RANGE $209,000 - $266,000/year
DUTIES As a successful candidate for the Software Engineer III role, you will be supporting a mature and well-established technical organization. You'll be a member of a 6-person Data Pipeline team, which plays a critical role within a broader 20+ person development organization. Together, the team supports a robust web-based platform that integrates diverse publicly available information (PAI) sources into a powerful analytical tool used by hundreds of mission customers. In this role, you'll contribute across the stack, developing ingest pipelines, building scalable REST APIs, and enhancing user-facing visualizations. The platform supports large-scale data ingestion, complex queries, and interactive analysis. While your primary focus will be on the data pipeline layer, you'll collaborate closely with other sub-teams to ensure end-to-end functionality and performance. We're looking for a developer who is excited to contribute to all aspects of this system and who also brings an interest in improving team processes and tooling, particularly in ways that help us integrate new data sources more efficiently and deliver faster. This long-running software effort is known for its technical stability, team cohesion, and deep integration into mission-critical systems, offering you the opportunity to make meaningful contributions in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
Required Skills
SKILLS
• Take ownership of complex features and contribute to the design and development of a high-impact, full-stack software platform
• Architect scalable, maintainable solutions using modern development and design patterns
• Build and enhance backend capabilities, including data ingest pipelines and scalable RESTful APIs, with occasional collaboration on frontend components
• Apply deep knowledge of microservices architecture and NoSQL databases to develop reliable, high-performing systems
• Collaborate with analysts, product owners, and fellow engineers to ensure solutions meet operational needs
• Promote code quality, mentor teammates, and share best practices
• Identify and implement process improvements to accelerate the delivery of new data sources and improve overall team efficiency
QUALIFICATIONS Twelve (12) years' experience as a SWE in programs and contracts of similar scope, type, and complexity is required. A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related discipline from an accredited college or university is required. Four (4) years of additional SWE experience on projects with similar software processes may be substituted for a bachelor's degree.
Additional requirements:
• Proficient in Java and the Spring Framework (Spring Boot, Spring MVC/REST, Spring Security, Spring Data)
• Experienced with NoSQL databases such as Elasticsearch, Dgraph, MongoDB, and Redis
• Strong familiarity with Git for version control and Maven for build automation
• Comfortable working in a Linux development environment
• Experienced using Atlassian tools, including Jira and Confluence, for task tracking and documentation
• Demonstrated willingness and ability to learn new tools, technologies, and workflows
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills
Desired Skills
NICE-TO-HAVES
• Proficient in data wrangling using Apache NiFi or similar tools
• Experienced with AWS services, including EC2, S3, and Lambda
• Skilled in scripting with Python, Groovy, and/or Bash
• Exposure to AI/ML technologies and workflows for data enrichment or analysis
• Frontend development experience with modern JavaScript and frameworks such as Vue.js
• Familiar with CI/CD tools like Jenkins and automated testing frameworks such as JUnit
• Hands-on experience with containerization technologies, including Docker and Kubernetes
