Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: (1) work with a Federal, State, municipal, local, or private protective organization that involved controlling access to restricted areas, patrolling, maintaining order, and protecting life or property; and (2) verifying identities using electronic systems, identification cards, badges, biometric records, or verbal questioning. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).

- Perform security guard duties in accordance with appropriate regulations to detect and prevent theft, damage, accident, trespass, sabotage and espionage.
- Enforce the security regulations of the installation.
- Control access of vehicles and pedestrians to installation.
- Verify identification through use of identification cards, badges, biometrics automated records, verbal questioning, and other means.
- Admit persons, denies entry or arranges for escorts, as appropriate.
- Conduct vehicle searches and inspections.
- Conduct foot or vehicle patrol of perimeters, roadways, parking and other high traffic areas.
Conditions of employment
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Position may be filled as a term appointment NTE 8 years and extended in one year increments.
- Incumbent must be able to obtain and sustain state certification for operating the NCIC terminals.
- IAW AR 190-56, requirements of Individual Reliability Program apply.
- IAW AR 600-85, a DA Form 5019 Condition of Employment must be assigned for mandatory drug testing. Drug testing designated position.
- Shift work is required, or a change in work shift may be necessary. Hours of work encompass fluctuating tours of duty to include evenings, nights, weekends and holidays.
- Overtime may be required as directed and is subject to recall for periods of emergency overtime.
- Incumbent must be proficient in the use of assigned firearms/weapons, pass an initial qualification, and must qualify semi-annually thereafter in the use of assigned firearms/weapons.
- Incumbent must undergo and pass annual medical exams of physical, emotional and mental stability.
- Incumbent must successfully complete security guard training.
- Employee must be trained and maintain current required certifications in CPR techniques and must know first aid.
- Incumbent may be required to wear chemical protection masks, gloves, and other protective equipment, and may be required to be certified in the use of aerosol irritants and baton.
- Incumbent will be required to maintain physical conditioning and pass an annual physical agility test (PAT).
- Must possess and maintain a valid state driver's license. Loss of license may result in removal from the position.
- Must wear the Department of the Army Security Guard (DASG) uniform IAW AR 190-56, maintain a high state of appearance and hygiene.
- Employee must obtain and maintain applicable certifications in operating various electronic equipment and sensors.
- Must not have any medical condition that precludes the wearing of a chemical protective mask and over garments.
- Employee must be able to perform as a member of the installation's overall security response capability.
- Temporary Duty travel (TDY) may be required up to 25%.
- LAUTENBERG AMENDMENT: Must meet the requirements under the Lautenberg Amendment/Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968.
