The role of Fire Alarm & Special Hazard Inspector represents the highest level of technical expertise and leadership in performing inspections, testing, and preventive maintenance of fire alarm and special hazard systems, including kitchen hoods and suppression systems. This senior-level position involves leading complex inspection and maintenance projects across government and commercial facilities, ensuring full compliance with applicable NFPA, local, and federal codes. The role of Fire Alarm & Special Hazard Inspector represents the highest level of technical expertise and leadership in performing inspections, testing, and preventive maintenance of fire alarm and special hazard systems, including kitchen hoods and suppression systems. The Fire Alarm & Special Hazard Inspector provides technical mentorship, develops advanced inspection methodologies, and ensures that all work aligns with M.C. Responsibilities
- Lead and execute comprehensive inspections, testing, and preventive maintenance on fire alarm, special hazard, and kitchen hood suppression systems.
- Perform diagnostics and troubleshooting on complex alarm and suppression systems, providing advanced technical solutions.
- Verify compliance with NFPA 72, NFPA 2001, NFPA 17A, and other applicable codes, standards, and regulations.
- Document inspection results accurately and prepare detailed reports outlining system status, deficiencies, and recommendations.
- Develop and implement maintenance schedules and upgrade plans to optimize system reliability and performance.
- Mentor and train junior inspectors and technicians, promoting safety, efficiency, and technical excellence.
- Collaborate with engineering, project management, and field teams to coordinate inspections and ensure seamless integration of systems.
- Provide remote technical support and serve as a subject matter expert for troubleshooting and inspection review.
- Conduct final acceptance testing and witness tests with AHJs (Authorities Having Jurisdiction) and clients.
- Uphold M.C. Dean's standards of safety, quality, and customer satisfaction in all inspection activities.
- This position will require up to 50% travel throughout the United States.
Certifications:
- Required: Possess NICET I in Special Hazards
- Required: Possess NICET II in Special Hazards or obtain within 90 days
- Preferred: NICET II in Fire Alarm
- Preferred: NICET III in Fire Alarm
Qualifications
- High school diploma with minimum 10 + years of related experience or
- Technology Degree with 8+ years of related experiences
- This position is subject to an additional customer background check.
- Clearance Requirement: Applicants selected will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements, including U.S. citizenship for access to classified information: Ability to obtain and maintain a Top-Secret clearance required.
Abilities:
- The position requires the ability to lift, carry, and move objects weighing up to [50 pounds] on a regular basis. Candidates must demonstrate physical strength and stamina to perform various tasks, including but not limited to, loading, and unloading, operating equipment, and assisting in the transportation of various materials. Proper lifting techniques and safety protocols must be followed to ensure personal and team safety.
- Relocates a 12 foot stepladder without assistance.
- Works at various heights up to 60 feet and can climb and maintain balance on scaffolds, aerial lifts, catwalks and all types of ladders.
- Walks, climbs, lifts, squats, crawls, kneels, pushes, pulls and reaches overhead on a routine and repetitive basis.
- Possess good vision (may be corrected vision), the ability to see in color, and the ability to hear and communicate in English.
- May use a standard ladder without exceeding the weight limit while carrying tools.
