Duties

  • Conduct traffic law enforcement patrol using specialized equipment such as radar, traffic classifier, and breathalyzer.
  • Perform access control and patrol duties to detect and prevent theft, damage, accident, trespass, sabotage and espionage and to enforce the security regulations of the installation.
  • Serve as a Patrol/Dispatch Officer in dispatching various patrol activities.
  • Respond immediately/conduct preliminary investigations relating to felonies, misdemeanors, and other criminal acts such as grand larceny, rape, sabotage, espionage, armed robbery, attempted murder/murder, assaults, complaints of domestic disputes.
  • Maintain firearm, uniform, and other issued equipment in good working order and condition.
  • Incumbent must be proficient and qualify semiannually with issued service weapons.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret Clearance.
  • Pre-employment physical agility test and annual physical agility test thereafter.
  • Incumbent will be subject to the requirements of the Individual Reliability Program (IRP).
  • Required to qualify with assigned weapons and to familiarize with special weapons commensurate with the duties assigned.
  • Due to the nature of this position, employees may be required to work both planned and unscheduled overtime.
  • Incumbent must work rotating shifts and other than normal duty hours, which may include evenings, weekends, and/or holidays and overtime.
  • This position is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) subject to pre-employment and random drug testing.
  • Subject to the Lautenberg Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968. Candidates with convictions of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence are not eligible for this position.
  • Requires the incumbent to wear a police officer uniform and to use protective clothing or gear.
  • Requires the incumbent to obtain and maintain a valid New York State driver's license.
  • Requires the incumbent to be subject to less than lethal weapons (pepper spray certification).
  • Academy and complete the Field Training Officer (FTO) within one year of hire, depending on course availability and/or funding.
  • Must complete initial and annual Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification and first aid within one year of hire depending on course availability and/or funding.
  • Must be able to lift, move, and carry persons.
  • Official Temporary Duty (TDY) travel less than 10 percent of the time may be required.

Qualifications

POSITION IS ANNOUNCED AS A STANDING REGISTER (OPEN CONTINUOUS RECRUITMENT): First cutoff date to evaluate candidates will be December 1, 2025. Specialized Experience:

For the GS-06 Level: One year of specialized experience which prepared you to do the work in this job. Specialized experience is defined as experience that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled such as: (1) Preventing, detecting and/or investigating crimes; responding to citizens in emergency/non-emergency situations (2)Protecting property against such hazards as fire, theft, damage, accident, or trespass and (3)Maintain order and/or protect life. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service GS-05.

For the GS-07 Level: One year of specialized experience which includes:(1) Preventing, detecting and/or investigating of crimes. (2) Protect property against such hazards as fire, theft, damage, accident, or trespass. (3) Perform access control and patrol duties to detect and prevent theft, damage, accident, trespass, sabotage and espionage and to enforce the security regulations of the installation. (4) obtain order and/or protecting life. Maintains records and prepare reports. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade level position in the federal service (GS-06)

In addition to the qualification above, to qualify for/progress to the GS-7 level you will need the following certifications: Successful completion of the US Army Civilian Police Academy and Field Officer Training Program. NOTE: All certifications must be submitted with application.
