About the Role
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Linux Systems Administrator (SA3) to support the Naval Surface Warfare Center Dahlgren Division (NSWCDD) IT environment. In this role, you will provide advanced Unix/Linux system administration for complex, classified and unclassified IT systems that directly enable the Navy’s research, development, test, and evaluation (RDT&E) mission.
This position supports on-site IT operations across secured environments, delivering reliable system performance, troubleshooting, maintenance, and lifecycle support to meet mission requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Administer, configure, and maintain Unix/Linux servers across secure RDT&E networks
Perform system backup and recovery, performance tuning, and resource allocation
Install and configure hardware, operating systems, and COTS software
Troubleshoot system, network, and security issues across varying operating environments
Manage system security including patching, vulnerability mitigation, and documentation
Utilize network protocols (e.g., TCP/IP) and security tools such as firewalls and intrusion detection
Support change, incident, and problem management processes for mission-critical systems
Ensure compliance with DoD, DON, NAVSEA, and command-level cybersecurity requirements
Required Qualifications
6+ years of professional experience in Unix/Linux systems administration
Experience with:
System backup/recovery and storage management
Hardware/software installation and configuration
System security, access control, and managing computing/network vulnerabilities
Troubleshooting hardware, software, and network components
Performance tuning and resource optimization in multi-system environments
Strong understanding of TCP/IP and major network security tools
Active T5 clearance (TS/SCI eligible)
Must meet DoD IAT Level III certification requirements
Preferred Experience (not required)
Experience supporting DoD or Navy RDT&E environments
Familiarity with ITSM processes and enterprise service management frameworks
Exposure to secure networks such as NMCI, DREN/SDREN, NREN, or JWICS
Work Environment & Schedule
Full-time, on-site at NSWCDD in Dahlgren, VA
Work is performed in secure classified and unclassified environments
May require occasional after-hours or on-call support for mission needs
