We are seeking an innovative, creative and experienced Digital Hardware Engineer who is ready for the challenges, responsibilities, and rewards that come with working in a high-energy, fast-paced environment. iDirect Government is dedicated to providing next generation solutions for broadband IP networking via satellite networks. As the leading innovators in this new space, our diverse and talented team of Internet, satellite and telecommunications professionals continues to break new ground and create significant opportunities for network operators, for service providers and resellers, and for corporate networking professionals. This position is located at iDirect Government office in Herndon, VA. The candidate will be responsible for participating in all development phases beginning with high level concept design and ending with production release. Key design areas are power design and digital design with a focus on microprocessors, FPGA, Ethernet, clocking and memory circuits.

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with multi-functional engineering teams (CAD, Mechanical, Component Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Firmware, Test and Supply chain) to develop hardware solutions.
  • Participate in high level conceptual design and evaluate architectural trade-offs (power, cost, manufacturability, etc).
  • Design and develop circuit boards with a focus on microprocessor and FPGA platforms, as well as DC/DC power distribution and regulation.
  • Simulations/modeling of digital interfaces for signal and power integrity
  • Implement designs using schematic capture software tools which include generating net lists, parts lists and preparation for printed circuit board layout
  • Provide PCB layout instructions including component placement, impedance control and stackup development.
  • Perform lab testing (DVT, HVT and SVT) and troubleshooting as needed
  • Supporting and sustaining production.
  • Clear and concise documentation to support all facets of the design and test.


Qualifications

  • Experience in digital design (embedded processor, PCIe, Gigabit Ethernet, USB, FPGA, clocks, SerDes, I2C, SPI, UART)
  • Experience with memory device implementation (SDRAM, DDR, EEPROM, NOR, NAND and SPI flash, microSD card/eMMC)
  • Knowledge of FPGA timing, programming tools and processes (Altera and Xilinx experience preferred)
  • Knowledge of the following: PLL, VCO, Modulator, Demodulator, amplifiers, Op Amp, logic gates, power supplies.
  • Experience in switching power supply and LDO design (DC/DC converters)
  • Experience with schematic capture software (ORCAD/DXDesigner/Xpedition)
  • Extensive hands-on experience in the lab for debugging and testing all parts of the digital and power design
  • Awareness of signal integrity and EMI/EMC issues
  • Awareness of DFx (Design for cost, test, manufacturing)
  • Practical experience in the use of test equipment (Oscilloscope, Logic Analyzer, Spectrum Analyzer, Waveform Generator, etc.)
  • Experience in CPLD design and the associated tools is a plus
  • Experience in hybrid RF/Digital PCB board layout is a plus
  • Scripting (Python, VB, C#, Perl, Tcl/Tk, Ruby) for the purpose of test automation would be an asset
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills

Education: BS in Electrical Engineering or closely related field from an accredited University/College. At least 2 years of work experience.

Clearance: Active DoD security clearance or ability to obtain a secret level DoD clearance.
