Duties

  • Patrol roadways, parking lots, or high traffic areas to check for security concerns.
  • Detain violators of laws, regulations, policies, rules, or posted warnings.
  • Assist with investigation into traffic accidents, incidents, property loss or damage, or injury.
  • Generate police reports, forms, and records in compliance with regulations and guidelines.
  • Perform physical security functions to safeguard personnel, property, and VIP visitors.
  • Monitor vehicle and pedestrian traffic according to security guard protocol.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Must qualify for and remain qualified for the Individual Reliability Program.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret Security Clearance.
  • This position is covered by the 1996 Lautenberg Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968. Persons convicted of a misdemeanor or felony crime of domestic violence are not eligible for the position.
  • Must possess a valid states drivers license.
  • Required to wear personal protective equipment, to include Air Purifying Respirators (APR) and must be able to wear chemical protective equipment IAW AR 50-6 Army Chemical Surety Program.
  • Required to wear and maintain uniform attire, high state of appearance, and hygiene.
  • Must pass initial and annual medical examination to include physical requirements for manual dexterity, vision, and hearing.
  • Must meet initial and annual Law Enforcement training and re-certification.
  • Must pass semi-annual weapons qualification test.
  • Must be able to work rotating shifts, overtime, weekends, and Holidays as required.
  • Subject to possible civil action due to improper exercise of arrest authority or injudicious use of force in the apprehension or detention of individuals.
  • Designated mission essential position and subject to 24-hour recall.
  • Must be trained and physically capable of doing crisis management operations including terrorist driven events, hostage situations, high risk persons security details, natural or man-made disasters and other stressful and dangerous situations.
  • Required to wear Level II Body Armor in accordance with AR 190-56.
  • Must complete and pass the United States Army Civilian Police Academy within 12 months of entry on duty.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain access to the Depot Computer Systems.
  • This position is subject to a pre-employment screening for drugs, and random testing thereafter, to include drug testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
  • Must pass the Physical Ability Test initially and annually IAW Army Regulation 190-56.
  • This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Police Officers to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

Conditions of Employment Continued:
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315. While probationary the incumbent can be terminated with limited appeal rights.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 10% of the time.
  • This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations.
  • This position is an Inclement Weather Essential position.
  • This position requires certification in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and First Aid training within 90 days of hire and maintain certification for the duration of employment.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) Performing routine security or patrol duties such as patrolling roadways, parking lots, or high traffic areas; 2) Assisting at accident scenes; or 3) Directing traffic such as of vehicles and pedestrians at worksites. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04).

Experience must have provided knowledge of a body of basic laws and regulations, law enforcement operations, practices, and techniques and involved responsibility for maintaining order and protecting life and property.

(Note: Successful completion of a Federal, State, county, or municipal police academy or comparable training course which included at least 40 classroom hours of instruction in police department procedures and methods, and local law and regulations, may be substituted for three months of specialized experience.)

Education: Four years of education above the high school level in an accredited school leading to a bachelor's degree in political science or a comparable degree program related to the work of the position.

OR

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education by 120. Add the two percentages.
