Our client is a USA-based company developing a patented laser enrichment technology that has a wide range of applications, including uranium enrichment, production of stable isotopes for medical and scientific research, and quantum computing manufacturing for semiconductor technologies. Their team comprises world-class nuclear experts collaborating with leading entrepreneurs and professionals, fostering strong relationships in both government and private nuclear sectors.

This role focuses on mechanical design and engineering of gas separator systems, jet assemblies, and high-precision flow structures. The successful candidate will develop mechanical concepts, build 3D models, specify materials, and lead fabrication from prototype to production. The engineer will collaborate closely with laser, process, and manufacturing teams to deliver hardware that supports CRISLA gas-phase separation technology.

Responsibilities

Lead the design and development of gas separation assemblies and flow manifolds for isotope enrichment systems.
Generate and manage detailed 3D CAD models and manufacturing drawings.
Develop adiabatic expansion configurations optimized for molecular flow uniformity, meeting system objectives.
Specify materials, tolerances, and sealing solutions suitable for high-vacuum corrosive/high-temperature environments.
Work with vendors to support machining and precision assembly of components.
Perform basic analytical modeling (mass flow, Reynolds number, expansion ratios) to support mechanical design choices.
Conduct design reviews and lead prototype build iterations with cross-functional teams.
Ensure nuclear-grade mechanical integrity and adherence to safety, quality, and performance standards.
Support experimental test setup, assembly, and mechanical integration in lab environments.
Produce engineering reports, specifications, and presentations for internal and external stakeholders.

Qualifications

Professional Degree(PhD/MSc). in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related field.
10+ years in mechanical design and engineering, ideally in high-vacuum or gas-dynamic systems.
Advanced proficiency with SolidWorks, Inventor, or equivalent 3D CAD software.
Experience with machined components, tolerancing (GD&T), and build-for-manufacture design practices.
Experience designing and hands on experience with entire assemblies.
Strong understanding of gas expansion, pressure regulation, and thermal-mechanical coupling.
Excellent written communication and technical documentation skills.
U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-clearance.

Preferred

Demonstrated expertise in precision nozzle and separator design, or related high-velocity flow hardware.
Experience designing mechanisms.
Experience designing dynamic seals.
Experience with supersonic or molecular beam systems, vacuum manifolds, or separator jet design.
Demonstrated expertise in adiabatic expansion systems or related high-velocity flow hardware.
Knowledge of gas transport phenomena, thermal gradients, and flow-stabilizing design.
Familiarity with laser interaction hardware, precision optical alignment, and cryogenic or heated assemblies.
Exposure to nuclear, aerospace, or semiconductor hardware environments.
Experience managing prototype-to-production transition
