Our Approach to AI in Hiring

At Mile Two, applications are reviewed by real people—not filtered out by bots. Authenticity matters more than keyword tricks.

We know you're probably using AI tools to help draft or polish your resumes, and that’s fine! We're using AI to write this blurb about AI! But we expect you to make it your own. Resumes that feel copy-pasted I —repetitive, oddly phrased, “too perfect” matches to our job description— may hurt your chances. Adding personal touches and real examples of your work will make your application stronger.

We look forward to meeting the real you!

This position is contingent upon Mile Two being awarded a specific government contract.

The UAS/ sUAS T&E Assessor is responsible for providing independent, data-driven, and unbiased technical assessments that directly inform acquisition decisions and trade space analysis for small unmanned aerial systems within the DoD. This role demands a seasoned engineer whose primary deliverable is objective knowledge regarding system maturity, performance limitations, and operational suitability, drawing upon deep expertise in GCS/HMI evaluation and credibility gained from supporting military operations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
I. Core Function: Independent Assessment and Advisory
Lead Unbiased Trade Space Analysis: Serve as the impartial technical authority, performing comparative evaluations and Independent Technical Assessments (ITA) of competing sUAS and subsystem trade-offs to guide strategic program decisions.
Requirements V&V Strategy: Define and document the complete Verification and Validation (V&V) strategy. Critically review System Requirements and Capability Documents to ensure testability, clarity, and relevance to real-world warfighter needs.
Programmatic Reporting: Author and present formal T&E documentation, including Test and Evaluation Master Plans (TEMP) and deficiency reports, advising senior Program Management
Office (PMO) and government leadership on system risks, cost/schedule impacts, and mitigation paths.
Human Factors Assessment: Spearhead the Human-Machine Interface (HMI) and usability assessment of Ground Control Stations (GCS) and mission software, using quantitative data (e.g., cognitive load, task completion time) to recommend design changes that optimize operator performance.

II. Test Planning and Execution Oversight
Test Design and Methodology: Design the metrics, methodologies, and instrumentation requirements for Developmental Test (DT) campaigns, ensuring that acquired data is sufficient for independent analysis and statistical rigor.
Execution Oversight: Provide technical oversight of test execution (often remotely from the control room), focusing on real-time data integrity, safety-critical parameters, and deviation from the test plan.
Data Analysis & Modeling: Process, reduce, and analyze complex flight and system data (using MATLAB/Python) to generate models of system performance and uncertainty, directly linking test results to system requirements compliance.
Requirements

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Experience: Minimum of 10+ years of progressive experience in Test & Evaluation or Systems Engineering, with a focus on defense acquisition or complex aerospace systems.
T&E and Advisory Focus: Demonstrated experience performing Independent Technical Assessments (ITAs) or similar high-level advisory roles for DoD acquisition programs.
GCS/HMI SME: Deep, quantifiable expertise in the design or test of GCS, HMI, and operator interfaces, including using human factors methodologies.
Operational Credibility (Down-Range): Proven ability to translate operational context into test requirements, validated by documented experience supporting forward-deployed/tactical military operations involving sUAS and UAS.
Clearance: Active U.S. DoD TS/SCI Security Clearance is required.
Technical Proficiency: Expert knowledge of test design methodologies (e.g., Design of Experiments - DOE), data analysis using MATLAB/Python, and a strong understanding of flight dynamics and control systems.
Travel: Ability to travel up to 50% to various domestic and international test sites or customer locations.
