The Science Disclosure Analyst provides specialized scientific review and disclosure analysis in support of a federal Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) program. This position involves evaluating, interpreting, and redacting complex scientific and technical documents to ensure compliance with FOIA, the Privacy Act, and related disclosure regulations. The analyst applies scientific expertise and FOIA knowledge to accurately assess sensitive data, determine disclosure eligibility, and apply appropriate exemptions to protect proprietary, confidential, or personal information.
The ideal candidate has a strong background in the biological sciences, excellent analytical and communication skills, and experience interpreting technical content for legal and regulatory compliance purposes.

Responsibilities
- Disclosure Review & Scientific Analysis:- Review and analyze scientific and technical records for responsiveness under FOIA.
- Apply appropriate FOIA exemptions to redact or withhold sensitive, proprietary, or personal information consistent with federal disclosure laws.
- Evaluate data, methodologies, and findings to ensure accurate representation and compliance with applicable disclosure standards.
- Support the federal client in reviewing scientific and regulatory materials, ensuring accuracy and consistency across case files.
 
- Redaction & Record Preparation:- Prepare records for release, including electronic redaction, annotation, and duplication of materials.
- Utilize Adobe Acrobat Pro or other approved tools to redact exempt content, box non-disclosable information, and apply Bates numbering as required.
- Maintain accuracy and completeness of redaction logs, exemption indices, and production documentation.
 
- Communication & Reporting:- Communicate with internal staff, leadership, and stakeholders to clarify requests and provide technical context.
- Keep division management informed of sensitive or high-profile disclosure requests.
 Prepare weekly progress reports and maintain tracking data in designated systems.
 
- Compliance & Quality Assurance:- Ensure all disclosure activities align with FOIA, the Privacy Act, the E-Government Act, and agency-specific policies.
- Maintain awareness of updates to scientific standards, disclosure statutes, and regulatory guidance.
- Participate in quality assurance reviews and incorporate feedback to maintain a high level of accuracy and compliance.
 
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Biological Sciences (Biology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Immunology, or related field).
- Minimum of 6 years of related experience performing scientific review, regulatory analysis, disclosure, or technical documentation work.
- Demonstrated ability to interpret and apply FOIA exemptions accurately and consistently.
 U.S. Citizenship or Green Card holder with eligibility for a Public Trust clearance.
- Ability to apply and interpret FOIA standards, exemptions, and disclosure regulations.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel) and Adobe Acrobat Pro.
- Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and written and verbal communication.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment.
Desired Qualifications:
- Experience working with clinical data sets or scientific journal articles.
- Familiarity with regulatory submissions, laboratory data, or research records.
- Bench science or prior laboratory research experience.
- Motivated, self-starter with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
