Job Description

Metronome is seeking a Cloud Platform Engineer with experience in cloud technology (AWS), programming skills in Python or Go, and a strong Linux foundation. You will contribute significantly to the development of custom software components and integration of open-source code to address complex problems using cutting-edge Big Data and Cloud technologies.

You'll be expected to work autonomously, identifying and solving problems quickly while aligning with broader strategic goals set by the team's Architects. This hybrid position offers the opportunity to collaborate with a talented, mission-driven group of engineers.
Essential Job Responsibilities
  • Serve as a strong systems integrator with an eye for opportunities to enhance, optimize, or increase the robustness of existing codebases
  • Leverage modern infrastructure-as-code tools to define, build, and manage virtual infrastructure in the cloud
  • Design and implement core architecture and capabilities for software from prototype to production
  • Perform other duties as assigned


Required Skills

Security Clearance: Active Secret U.S. Government clearance required; U.S. citizenship required
  • Experience:
  • 5+ years in Platform Engineering or Software Development (Python or Go) with a Bachelor's in a related field;
  • OR 3 years with a Master's;
  • OR 9 years with a High School Diploma or equivalent

  • Experience developing and deploying infrastructure in AWS
  • Experience with Kubernetes (or vendor flavor of Kubernetes)
  • Strong understanding of Linux systems, hosts, networks, security, and applications; proficiency in shell scripting (Shell/Bash)
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot complex issue
  • Must be able to work in a hybrid environment (1-2 days/week onsite at our Columbia, MD office); flexibility required for scheduling changes


Desired Skills

Familiarity with DISA's Big Data Platform or other big data systems (Cloudera, Hortonworks, MapR, etc.)
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines (GitLab CI, Jenkins, Travis CI, etc.)
  • Understanding of Agile software development methodologies and common tool suites (JIRA, Confluence, GitHub, GitLab)
  • Experience with configuration management and automation tools (Puppet, Ansible, Maven)
  • Experience with virtualization technologies (oVirt, Proxmox, VMware, etc.)
