Under the supervision of the Program Manager, the Master Plumber/Pipe Fitter provides plumbing and pipe fitting expertise in support of the operation, maintenance, and repair of plumbing, HVAC-related piping, and water distribution systems at National Ground Intelligence Center (NGIC) Charlottesville, VA. The plumber is responsible for ensuring the safe condition and proper functioning of plumbing systems across the facility. This position also supports general maintenance activities and assists with facility-wide upkeep and special projects. Must be able to obtain and maintain a TS/SCI security clearance.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Install, assemble, modify, repair, and maintain pipes, fittings, valves, fixtures, sewage systems, drainage systems, water distribution systems, grease traps, oily water separators, and backflow preventers in accordance with specifications, building plans, and plumbing codes.
  • Perform preventive maintenance and routine servicing on plumbing systems and related equipment.
  • Study blueprints and building sketches to plan and lay out pipe routing, slope, and placement.
  • Cut openings in walls and floors for pipe installation; cut, thread, and join piping using hand and power tools.
  • Join pipe by screws, bolts, fittings, solder, and adhesives.
  • Fill systems with water or air and read gauges to detect leaks or pressure issues.
  • Clear clogged drains with augers, hydrostatic, or electric-powered equipment.
  • Inspect, diagnose, and resolve plumbing emergencies.
  • Initiate requisitions for parts, supplies, and materials needed for repair work.
  • Maintain accurate daily work orders, service logs, and inspection reports.
  • Escort subcontractors, vendors, and visitors when required.
  • Assist with general building maintenance tasks (e.g., minor carpentry, masonry, painting, patching, tiling, ceiling/roof repairs, window and fencing repair).
  • Respond to emergency maintenance calls and support special facility projects as directed.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA safety regulations, site security requirements, and facility policies.
  • Be available between 0700 - 1600 hours, Monday through Friday, except Federal holidays or when the Government facility is closed.


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Licensing: Active Master Plumber/Pipe Fitter license in the Commonwealth of Virginia (minimum of 3 years).
  • Experience: Minimum 3 years of commercial or government facility plumbing experience (residential-only experience not accepted).
  • Clearance: Ability to obtain and maintain TS/SCI security clearance.
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Skilled in the safe use of plumbing trade hand and power tools.
  • Knowledge of the National Plumbing Code, building codes, safety regulations, and best practices.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and technical documents.
  • Familiarity with PVC, CPVC, PEX, cast iron, copper, and other piping materials.
  • Strong oral communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • U.S. Citizenship required.
