JOB SUMMARY

As an FBI IT Professional, your job is to ensure our law enforcement systems, as well as the entire cyberspace within which we work, are protected. This means applying your knowledge of computer technology, cybersecurity, and more to safeguard information across the FBI, as well as our domestic and international law enforcement partners.

KEY REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be able to obtain a Top Secret Clearance

MAJOR DUTIES

As an IT Specialist you will;

GS 7:
  • Provide routine support regarding administrative and/or technical matters related to IT programs and/or services.
  • Implement software upgrades and changes according to assigned change requests

GS 9: (In addition to above)
  • Diagnose and resolve mobile and/or system problems by analyzing a variety of conditions, problems and issues regarding hardware, software, and networks.
  • Configure, install, repair, and maintain computer desktops, mobile devices and operating systems.
  • Conduct preliminary analysis of current systems to determine the feasibility of new or automated IT to resolve the issues.

Positive Education Requirement
This position has a specific education requirement; all applicants must verify completion of this basic educational requirement by submitting a copy of their college transcripts by the closing date of the vacancy announcement.

Degrees must be in one of the following fields: Computer Science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management OR degree that provided a minimum of 24 semester hour in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems, or networks.

Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the above requirements provided you can show foreign education is comparable to that received in an accredited educational institution in the United States.

Candidates must have received or will be receiving an undergraduate, graduate, or PhD degree between May 2024 and June 2026 with a GPA no less than 2.95 on a 4.0 scale at the time of graduation. Veterans have up to six years after graduating or completing their degree to apply (May 2020-June 2026).

Specialized Experience (SE)

GS 7: Applicant must possess at least one (1) year of SE equivalent to the GS 5 grade level. SE is:
  • Experience applying standard troubleshooting methods to assist in maintaining IT systems.
  • Experience performing routine system diagnostics and analyzing potential problems or issues.
  • Experience implementing software upgrades and changes.

GS 9: Applicant must possess at least one (1) year of SE equivalent to the GS 7 grade level. SE (in addition to above) is:
  • Experience in supporting the development of various IT applications and software, providing testing support and offering recommendations regarding potential enhancements.
  • Experience in collaborating with product owners, business analysts, designers, developers, and architects.
  • Experience using a ticketing system to track incidents and tasks.

Education

All degrees must be from an accredited college or university. Education may be substituted for specialized experience as follows:

GS-7: Applicant must have a bachelor's degree with superior academic achievement or one (1) full year of graduate level education. Superior academic achievement is the completion of all the requirements of a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, which is based on (1) class standing, (2) grade-point average of 2.95 or higher as recorded on an official transcript, or as based on courses completed during the final two years of the curriculum, or (3) honor society membership.

GS-9: Applicant must have a master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.B. or J.D., if related.

    ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
    • The FBI is in the Executive Branch of the federal government. It is one of the components of the Department of Justice (DOJ). The FBI is the principle investigative arm of the DOJ. All FBI positions are in the excepted service.
