Serves as an MVO Heavy responsible for operating straight trucks that are in excess of 4 tons to include but not limited to; dump trucks, water distribution trucks, fuel trucks and vacuum trucks. Operates these trucks to transport various types of materials, furniture, and equipment. May depending on assignment, be required to obtain and maintain a Tanker and Hazardous Material endorsement to Commercial Driver's License (CDL) in order to also haul hazardous material. May also be required to operate forklifts and various other light and heavy utility trucks (not requiring Class "A" CDL) both with and without trailers. May, however, be required to work out-of-class as a Tractor/Trailer Truckdriver which does require a Class "A" CDL. Also responsible for vehicle operator maintenance/inspections and minor operator repairs.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains documentation and files for transportation and turn-ins of hazardous waste materials in accordance with company policy, local, state and federal regulations.
  • Transports materials or equipment to Motor Pool, warehouses, landfills, open storage yards, office buildings, single/family dwellings, and various places of business.
  • Based on the type and nature of delivery and destination, may load or unload truck with or without assistance.
  • Maintains and updates vehicle trip ticket (DA Fonn 2205), to include close liaison with Motor Pool personnel.
  • Maintains and abides by current and up-to-date procedures for loading, offloading and securing vehicle loads such as but not limited to small loose items, medium bulk and items, and material handling equipment such as forklifts, warehouse tractors, and similar equipment. Is responsible for the loading and unloading of assigned truck - with or without assistance.
  • Operates a variety of special truck adapted equipment such as, but not limited to winches power tail gates, lift ramps, hoist, and classified destruction equipment, etc.
  • Maintains current knowledge of daily after delivery service and operational inspection of vehicles.
  • Operates vehicles in a safe manner to include acquiring knowledge of local, state and federal safety/traffic laws, rules, ordinances and regulations.
  • Operates a wide variety of trucks and vehicles to include, but not limited to dump trunks water distribution trucks, fuel trucks, vacuum trucks, forklifts, and various other light and heavy utility trucks with or without trailers.
  • May also be required to perform other duties such as operating Jackhammers, Walk Behind Trencher, Walk Behind Asphalt Roller, Chain Saws, and various other small equipment and hand tools.
  • May be required to obtain a Class "A" CDL in order to work out-of-class as a Truck Driver, Tractor Trailer.
  • Performs duties as member of HAZMAT Spill Team.
  • Straight truck, over 4 tons, usually 10 wheels.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Accountable For:
    • Accountable for accomplishing all assigned duties and responsibilities in accordance with Contract, Corporate policies/procedures, and applicable federal and state laws. Accountable for performance of duties to assigned Supervisor.

Qualifications

  • Must possess, or obtain within 30 days of the job offer, and maintain a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with, as a minimum, a Class "B" endorsement. Position may require obtaining endorsement for HAZMAT. Applicants with a current valid Class "B" CDL with HAZMAT endorsement preferred. May also be required to obtain and maintain a Class "A" CDL in order to perform the required out of class work as a Truck Driver, Tractor Trailer.
  • Minimum two years' experience within the past five years of operating trucks of over 4 tons in an environment and with responsibilities similar to those described herein required.
  • Good physical conditioning is required. Must maintain physical condition required to maintain HAZMAT certification and perform on Spill Team. Position requires frequent heavy lifting of more than 80 pounds and the use/handling of an eighty-pound jackhammer. Requires working while exposed to inclement weather.
  • Must be familiar with applicable local, federal and state traffic, driving, and overall vehicle operations laws and regulations.
  • Must be able to write legibly and read.
  • Must be tactful and cooperative in dealing with others.
  • Must be able to receive a security clearance for access to material up to and including SECRET and/or pass a National Agency Check.
