Job Summary
Galapagos Federal Systems, LLC is seeking a highly motivated and well-qualified professional to join our team as a Cybersecurity Information Systems Security Engineer SME. This role offers the opportunity to work alongside a team of talented and diverse individuals supporting mission-critical operations for the Department of Defense (DoD).
The selected candidate will provide direct, day-to-day support to classified networks and systems within secure environments, ensuring the highest levels of security and compliance. In this position, you will work closely with the Program Manager to strengthen the cybersecurity posture of classified DoD programs and ensure alignment with DoD policies, directives, and mission priorities.
Key Responsibilities
The Cybersecurity Information Systems Security Engineer SME will:
* Ensures the confidentiality, integrity, and availability (CIA) of capabilities supporting U.S. Space Force (USSF) priorities
* Provides subject matter expertise (SME) in cybersecurity posture, including the design and implementation of security features to prevent unauthorized access and counter emerging threats to classified network objectives
* Delivers recommendations and solutions to the government for the effective implementation of cybersecurity programs and projects
* Ensures strict adherence to Department of the Air Force (DAF), DoD, and Intelligence Community (IC) standards, as well as government-defined processes
* Prepares and provides program reviews, schedules, action item updates, and required documentation within established deadlines
* Conducts timely, in-depth research and analysis of policies and processes to support mission objectives
* Applies IT security control requirements to safeguard the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of system data and resources
* Ensures all solutions are fully compatible with system and network hardware/software configurations and receive approval from system and network configuration managers
Required Skills and Experience
The Cybersecurity Information Systems Security Engineer SME must have:
* Active Top Secret clearance with SCI eligibility
* 15+ years of experience in DoD environments, including extensive work in SAP/SCI programs within the last five years
* Willingness to complete a Counterintelligence Scope Polygraph as required
* Strong background in aerospace and industry strategy
* Deep knowledge of the Risk Management Framework (RMF) and NIST standards guiding the cybersecurity process
* Recognized subject matter expert with mastery of cybersecurity and information management policies, programs, processes, and techniques
* Proven ability to plan, manage, and execute projects from initiation through completion, coordinating people, resources, and timelines to achieve scope, cost, quality, and risk objectives
* Provides strategic counsel and technical expertise to program and project personnel
* Conducts analyses, evaluations, and data studies to inform decision-making and recommend actionable solutions
* Oversees and refines program requirements, design considerations, and engineering initiatives, ensuring cost, schedule, and technical alignment
* Ensures all deliverables meet standards of quality and warfighting objectives
* Excellent organizational, presentation, and communication skills (verbal and written)
* Strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities, with a proactive approach to risk mitigation
* Skilled at facilitating collaboration among diverse stakeholders, agencies, and senior leadership
* Communicates with clarity, precision, and technical accuracy across both written documentation and oral briefings
Education and Certifications
The Cybersecurity Information Systems Security Engineer SME must meet the following:

* Master's Degree
* Equivalent work experience may be considered in lieu of education
* DoD 8570.01 IASAE Level III. (IAM Level III with relevant experience may be considered as a substitute)
