Position Summary:
The UsX Subject Matter Expert (SME) for Unmanned Systems and SOF provides advanced operational and technical expertise to USSOCOM’s Joint Acquisition Task Force (JATF). This role supports the evaluation and integration of emerging technologies across diverse Special Operations mission profiles, including direct action, reconnaissance, irregular warfare, counterterrorism, and support to partner forces. The SME leads technical experimentation and operational evaluation from planning through execution and after-action analysis, ensuring mission relevance and alignment with SOF-specific requirements. POSITION REQUIREMENTS AND ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Conduct operational assessments of new and emerging technologies during technical experimentation (TE) events, training exercises, and limited objective evaluations. Applies operational experience to ensure realistic replication of combat conditions.
Develop mission-relevant evaluation criteria, observe system performance, and document strengths, weaknesses, and mission applicability.
Participate in planning sessions with JATF and USSOCOM stakeholders to define objectives, scope, and measures of effectiveness. Coordinate with industry and academic participants to align technologies into SOF concepts of operations (CONOPS).
Advise commanders, acquisition officers, and program managers on risks, applicability, and follow-on development opportunities.
Produce detailed after-action reports, mission assessments, and business process analysis (BPA) inputs to capture lessons learned and improve experimentation workflows.
Deliver actionable recommendations that enhance SOF readiness, survivability, and operational effectiveness.
Completes all other tasks and duties as needed to help drive Liberty Alliance’s Vision, fulfill our Mission, and abide by our organization’s values.


QUALIFICATIONS:
REQUIRED:

Special Operations Experience: Minimum of 10 years of operational experience within U.S. SOF, including at least 4 years in an operational combat role.
Combat Evaluation Expertise: Demonstrated experience conducting operational testing, experimentation, or combat evaluation of emerging technologies and systems.
Security Clearance: Ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret/SCI clearance.
Technical Proficiency: Familiarity with advanced military technologies, including C4ISR, unmanned systems, communications, and mission support tools.
Analytical & Problem-Solving Skills: Strong ability to assess system performance, identify operational risks, and provide actionable recommendations.
Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to prepare clear reports, briefings, and presentations for senior leaders and diverse audiences.
Teamwork & Collaboration: Proven ability to work effectively in joint, interagency, and coalition environments, engaging with government, industry, and academic stakeholders.
Leadership & Advisory Skills: Experience advising senior leaders, acquisition officers, or program managers on operational and technical matters.
Planning & Coordination: Skilled in organizing, planning, and executing complex events such as technical experiments, training exercises, or deployments.
Adaptability: Comfortable working in austere, dynamic, and fast-paced environments with shifting priorities.
Travel Flexibility: Willingness to support CONUS and OCONUS travel in support of JATF experimentation and operational events.
Computer Proficiency: Competency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), collaboration tools, and mission-planning software.
Excellent communication skills with a collaborative mindset and the ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams.
Onsite requirement: This is a full-time, onsite role; must be able to perform duties in person at assigned location(s).

PREFERRED:

Prior experience supporting USSOCOM, JATF, or other Special Operations–focused acquisition or evaluation efforts.
Military background with direct SOF experience; prior service in SOCOM or joint/coalition SOF operations strongly preferred.
Experience in joint or interagency operations, particularly in technology integration or capability development roles.
Advanced degree in a relevant field (e.g., Engineering, Operations Research, Defense Studies, or related discipline).
Demonstrated ability to influence technology pathways and shape future capabilities through advisory or leadership roles.
Familiarity with Business Process Analysis (BPA) or continuous improvement methodologies in experimentation workflows.

WORKING CONDITIONS
Must be physically able to operate computers, office equipment, and mission-planning tools. The role requires frequent walking and periods of both standing and sitting, with occasional lifting, climbing, pulling, and pushing of up to 50 pounds. Work is performed in both indoor and outdoor environments, with exposure to varied field conditions during experimentation and training events. Extended periods at a workstation may be required for planning, coordination, and reporting.
