Department Overview:
The Air Defense Ground Equipment Mechanical Design Department is responsible for the mechanical design, development, and integration of critical defense platform systems. This includes radar and communications shelters, electronic subsystems, launchers, hardware integration, and system interconnects.
We are currently seeking a motivated and driven Mechanical Engineer II to join our Ground Equipment Design Team. The ideal candidate will bring a blend of technical expertise, mechanical hardware design experience, system integration skills, and a strong background in program execution and production support. As a key contributor on a mechanical or cross-functional engineering team, you will be responsible for component and assembly modeling, documentation, design changes, and release processes.
This position is ideal for an early-career mechanical engineer who is looking to grow their skills in design, manufacturing, and technical problem-solving within a highly collaborative and mission-focused environment.
Role is an On-Site role in Tewksbury or Andover, MA
Key Responsibilities:
Design & Development:
Investigate and resolve change requests from manufacturing or suppliers
Develop rework or modification procedures to support product updates
Support the full product lifecycle from concept definition through detailed design, release to production, and post-production support
Collaboration & Communication:
Work closely with other engineering disciplines, non-technical functions, and suppliers to develop robust design solutions and resolve technical challenges
Participate in design peer reviews, resolve action items, and conduct trade studies to inform technical decisions
Manage tasks independently and ensure timely delivery of technical, schedule, and financial commitments
Mentor and support less experienced engineers, contributing to team development and technical growth
Basic Qualifications:
Minimum 2 years of mechanical engineering experience, preferably in rugged or military-grade hardware design
Hands-on experience with 3D CAD tools and associated product data management (PDM) systems
Experience with the full product lifecycle, including concept development, detailed design, and production support
Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government-issued security clearance (U.S. citizenship required)
Preferred Qualifications:
Technical Expertise:
Advanced degree in Mechanical Engineering or related hardware systems discipline
Familiarity with:
Electronic packaging design
Subsystems, modules, CCAs, PWBs, and interconnects (supporting RF, digital, and power systems)
Design and integration of electronic assemblies, shelters, racks, and power distribution units
Military and commercial specifications
Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) per ASME Y14.5
ECAD development processes
Experience with Interconnects, Cables, and Harnesses
Design Tools & Processes:
Proficient in Creo CAD tools and documentation
Experience with Windchill PDM or similar configuration/data management systems
Familiarity with configuration control and change management processes
Skilled in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project)
Leadership & Collaboration:
Strong team player with a self-driven, proactive mindset
Demonstrated ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks effectively
Excellent communication, technical writing, and presentation skills
Willingness to travel domestically and internationally as needed
