Job Title: Senior Software Engineer
Duration: Full-time Contract Position
Location: Remote with quarterly travel to DOE facilities required
Short Summary about Job:
We are seeking an experienced Senior Software Engineer to maintain operational applications, provide customer support, and plan information systems from application design through database administration. This role involves tactical design, engineering, technical specifications, and project coordination for moderately complex IT solutions supporting DOE nuclear activities. The position requires collaboration with Software Professional Leads and customers to understand functional and system requirements while maintaining technical expertise across multiple disciplines.
Required Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in IT-related discipline (Information Technology, Computer Technology, Software Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering) with 5 years proven performance in related assignments; OR Non-related Bachelor's degree with 7 years proven performance in related assignments; OR Associate degree in IT-related discipline with 7 years proven performance in related assignments; OR Non-related Associate degree with 9 years proven performance in related assignments; OR High school diploma with typically at least 11 years of equivalent knowledge and experience
• 15+ years of experience in software engineering related positions, including minimum 10 years on DOE projects
• Knowledge of academic and practical aspects of Software Engineering with ongoing technical development required
• Applied understanding of computer languages, software development fundamentals/methodology, and database infrastructure
• Programming skills including analyzing information, software design, requirements, testing, documentation, problem solving, and debugging
• Proficiency developing moderately complex software
• Experience with software engineering tools: configuration management systems, change management, vulnerability scanning, and debuggers
• Fluency with JavaScript, VB, C++, and/or Python
• Experience participating in systems engineering teams with software engineering and program development responsibilities
• Ability to work independently and within multi-discipline teams
• Ability to work with minimal direction and supervision while adapting to changing priorities
• Advanced knowledge of discipline's standard theories, concepts, principles and techniques
• Must be able to obtain and maintain DOE "Q" security clearance
• Subcontractor must have active eFOCI registration and approved Facility Level Clearance with DOE/NNSA
• Quarterly travel required to meet in person with engineering teams (estimated $6,000 annually)
Preferred Qualifications
• Candidates who have possessed an active DOE clearance (L or Q) within the past two years
• Experience developing Rational DOORS Requirements Management Extensions
• Prior DOE site experience and working knowledge of related processes and procedures
