Waypoint's client is seeking a Network Subject Matter Expert (SME) II to design, plan, integrate, and maintain core tactical and strategic communications networks in support of the Army's mission. The successful candidate will serve as a Tactical SATCOM SME, providing technical expertise across network architectures, protocols, and systems while supporting interoperability with allied nations, DoD partners, and commercial services.

Waypoint's client is seeking a Network Subject Matter Expert (SME) II to design, plan, integrate, and maintain core tactical and strategic communications networks in support of the Army's mission. The successful candidate will serve as a Tactical SATCOM SME, providing technical expertise across network architectures, protocols, and systems while supporting interoperability with allied nations, DoD partners, and commercial services.
Responsibilities
- Gather requirements from users, Operational Need Statements, and Capability Production Documents (CPDs) for Army tactical communications systems and translate them into standards-based, cost-efficient technical solutions.
- Develop network architecture for adjacent, higher, and lower units, allied nations, government agencies, and commercial service interfaces.
- Provide engineering design, development, integration, installation, operation, and maintenance of the tactical network.
- Support integration of Data/Voice/Video/Telephony in tactical networks; assist in developing technical requirements, specifications, plans, reports, and engineering documentation.
- Prepare independent assessments and provide systems engineering support throughout the lifecycle.
- Develop equipment and network configurations and support technology insertion testing for emerging PM TN requirements.
- Provide technical expertise at field locations and PM TN equipment labs.
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related field.
- Minimum of 12 years of experience as a Subject Matter Expert in Tactical SATCOM.
- Strong knowledge of current and future tactical and strategic military communications networks, including architecture, protocols, security, and network management.
- Proficiency with Cisco technologies: Cisco IOS, NXOS, ISE, UCS Networking, Configuration, and Cisco ASA.
- Familiarity with routing protocols such as BGP, OSPF, RIP, EIGRP, and proficiency with MULTICAST.
- Proven experience designing and implementing LANs and VLANs.
- Expertise in VOIP technologies including Cisco Call Manager, Call Manager Express, and Redcom Sigma Core.
- Skilled with network protocol analysis tools (e.g., Sniffer, Wireshark).
- Familiarity with Army Software Baselines and Architectures.
- Experience with Microsoft technologies, particularly Active Directory.
- Knowledge of virtualization and storage technologies (VMware, EMC, NetApp, Microsoft, Dell, HP, etc.).
