Waypoint's client is seeking a Principal Systems Engineer - BMD Subject Matter Expert (SME) to facilitate modeling, simulation, and analysis (M&S) efforts shaping the future of the Missile Defense System (MDS). This senior-level position provides critical technical expertise in defining future concepts, assessing architecture options, and responding to Warfighter needs. The ideal candidate will bring deep knowledge of current and future MDS architectures, extensive M&S experience, and the ability to guide high-impact analyses that influence national defense strategies.

Responsibilities:

• Lead the definition of future MDS concepts for modeling, simulation, and analysis activities.
• Act as a Subject Matter Expert for concept definition, architecture assessments, and review of M&S results prior to customer delivery.
• Assess threats, capability gaps, challenges, needs, and opportunities; develop system mitigations and evolutions at the architecture level.
• Develop analysis plans, run M&S, analyze results, and prepare technical reports and executive briefings.
• Support M&S efforts using DoD High Performance Computing (HPC) systems and advanced modeling tools.
• Provide technical recommendations through analysis of diverse MDS architecture options and future concepts.
• Contribute to the evolution of defense architectures by supporting Analysis of Alternatives (AoA) and other high-level studies.
• Collaborate across DoD, Services, Combatant Commands, FFRDCs, UARCs, and OGAs to ensure technical rigor and alignment with Warfighter needs.
• Provide expert insight into technology assessments, emerging concepts, and potential architectural revolutions.

Required:

• Master's degree in a STEM field.
• Minimum of 12+ years of experience supporting missile defense or other large, complex DoD programs.
• Active Secret clearance with ability to obtain TS/SCI.
• Extensive experience in the modeling, assessment, and evaluation of missile defense architectures.
• Deep knowledge of the current MDS architecture and future concepts.

Desired:

• Active TS/SCI clearance.
• Experience defining and using advanced concepts and algorithms in M&S for MDS architectures.
• M&S and analysis experience with architectures involving directed energy, kinetic energy weapons, or other advanced concepts.
• Knowledge of MATLAB and/or Python, with HPC or MBSE experience.
• Experience with systems engineering activities related to architecture design.
• Ability to assess and analyze emerging technologies for MDS utility.
• Specialized MDS analysis expertise in threat characterization, trajectories, RF sensing/signatures, and/or EO/IR sensing/signatures.
• Proven record of coauthoring reports and contributing to Congressional responses and MDA studies.
• Familiarity with Cyber gaps, mitigations, and future Cyber Architecture development.
• Experience collaborating on products provided to external stakeholders such as DoD, Services, Combatant Commands, and industry partners.
