Waypoint's client is seeking an experienced Range Safety Engineer to support the Missile Defense Agency (MDA) Targets and Countermeasures Engineering Directorate. This role provides technical expertise across the targets portfolio with responsibility for flight termination systems (FTS), range safety requirements, and verification of hardware/software development. The successful candidate will serve as a subject matter expert for range safety during test events and working groups, ensuring the safety and mission success of MDA test campaigns.

This role provides technical expertise across the targets portfolio with responsibility for flight termination systems (FTS), range safety requirements, and verification of hardware/software development. The successful candidate will serve as a subject matter expert for range safety during test events and working groups, ensuring the safety and mission success of MDA test campaigns.
Responsibilities:
- Serve as the Range Safety Subject Matter Expert (SME) for the Targets Program Office during flight tests, Range Safety Working Groups, and functionality testing.
- Provide oversight of requirements development, allocation, and verification for FTS products, including autonomous flight termination systems.
- Provide oversight of GFE/CFE hardware and software development, acceptance, qualification, integration, and checkout.
- Prepare both summary-level and detailed reports documenting findings, recommendations, and technical status.
- Represent customer interests at working groups, technical interchange meetings, and forums.
- Apply knowledge of range safety standards to support analysis, development, and compliance.
- Support failure review boards and component investigations as needed.
- Master of Science in a STEM field.
- 12+ years of experience in missile defense-related or other large, complex DoD programs/projects.
- Active DoD Secret clearance.
- Working knowledge of range safety requirements.
- Familiarity with flight safety analysis methods and analysis products.
- Proficiency in Range Tracking Systems (inertial measurement, GPS, C-band tracking).
- Proficiency with RCC-319 Flight Termination Commonality Standard and RCC-324 Range Safety Tracking Systems Standard.
- Ability to work independently or lead teams to analyze and resolve technical problems.
- Strong oral, written, and briefing skills.
- Flexibility to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Familiarity with autonomous flight termination systems (AFTS) (highly desired).
- Direct Flight Test Range Safety experience.
- Background in batteries, RF systems, ordnance devices, and antennas.
- 10+ years of additional defense/aerospace industry experience.
