Mindbank Consulting Group has an immediate need for a Senior Data Modeler to support our federal client in advancing species management and conservation initiatives. This is a 100% onsite role from day one; no exceptions can be made. Preferred location is Falls Church, VA; consideration will be made to those who prefer Fort Collins, CO. The salary range is $120,000 - $125,000 per year and is based on each candidate’s professional experience and skills.
This position is ideal for someone who thrives at the intersection of data and software development. You’ll be responsible for designing and maintaining enterprise data models while also bringing the versatility to work with developers, DevOps engineers, and analysts on a legacy system newly migrated to the cloud.
Responsibilities:
• Design, implement, and maintain conceptual, logical, and physical data models to support a large-scale federal system.
• Collaborate with developers, data engineers, and product owners to translate business needs into efficient, scalable data solutions.
• Work with relational, NoSQL, and cloud-based data platforms (PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB, Elasticsearch, AWS/GCP data services).
• Support data integration and transformation using modern tools (Apache NiFi, Kafka, ETL pipelines).
• Contribute to DevOps and test automation processes by supporting CI/CD pipelines, version control (Git), and containerized/cloud environments.
• Perform data analysis and validation, ensuring accuracy and consistency across systems.
• Create and maintain data documentation, standards, and governance artifacts.
• Troubleshoot data-related issues and collaborate with QA/test engineers to ensure data quality.
Qualifications:
• US Citizen or Permanent Resident able to pass a federal background investigation.
• BS in Computer Science or similar.
• 6+ years of professional experience in data modeling and database design.
• Strong SQL skills; experience with modern RDBMS platforms (PostgreSQL, MySQL) and NoSQL (MongoDB, Elasticsearch).
• Familiarity with legacy platforms such as Oracle, Teradata, DB2, or Netezza is a plus.
• Experience with data modeling tools (ERWin, ER/Studio, PowerDesigner).
• Hands-on experience with cloud environments (AWS, GCP) and containerized services (Docker, Kubernetes).
• Exposure to software development (Java, Python, or similar) and willingness to contribute beyond pure modeling.
• Experience with modern data visualization or BI tools for reporting and insights.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to convey complex concepts to technical and non-technical audiences.
