The Red Gate Group is seeking a Cloud Engineer to support the Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA) in Reston, VA. In this role, you will design, administer, and enhance cloud environments that enable critical mission operations. You will apply deep technical knowledge of Microsoft Azure and hybrid cloud architectures to ensure secure, scalable, and reliable solutions. The ideal candidate will bring strong hands-on engineering expertise, problem-solving skills, and the ability to operate in an Agile environment supporting national security missions.
Responsibilities
Manage, administer, and enhance Microsoft Azure cloud environments, ensuring optimal performance, security, and availability.
Deploy, configure, and maintain Azure resources, including virtual machines, storage accounts, networking, and databases.
Implement Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using tools such as Terraform or ARM templates.
Support hybrid cloud environments and integrate on-premise and cloud solutions.
Apply Azure networking concepts, including VNETs, subnets, peering, and NSGs.
Develop scripts and automation using Bash, PowerShell, or Azure CLI.
Collaborate in an Agile, team-based environment leveraging Jira and Confluence for task tracking and knowledge management.
Support cloud security requirements, ensuring compliance with DoD policies and standards.
Troubleshoot and resolve issues quickly while continuously improving cloud processes.
Mentor junior team members and contribute to the team’s overall cloud engineering expertise.
Qualifications
Active TS/SCI security clearance.
DoD 8570 Compliant Security+ or CISSP certification (must be obtained prior to contract start).
5+ years of experience deploying and maintaining Microsoft Azure environments.
Experience with Azure services: VMs, storage, networking, and databases.
Hands-on experience with IaC tools (Terraform, ARM templates).
Proficiency with Linux OS and Bash scripting.
Strong knowledge of Azure networking (VNETs, subnets, NSGs).
Experience managing hybrid cloud environments.
Ability to work in Agile teams with collaboration tools such as Jira and Confluence.
Desired Qualifications
Experience with Python, Go, or Java for automation and system development.
Experience with containerization (Docker) and orchestration (Kubernetes).
Familiarity with Azure Active Directory (AAD) and multi-tenant cloud environments.
Experience automating Azure processes with PowerShell or Azure CLI.
Knowledge of systems architecture and cloud solution design.
Experience interfacing with Cloud Security Service Providers (CSSP).
Azure Engineer or Architect Certification.
Bachelor’s degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics).
