This is an on-site position at the Pentagon in Arlington, VA. Due to position classification, limited telework, i.e., no more than 1-2 days per month, is expected.
As a Principal Scientist/Engineer, you will provide specialized knowledge and expertise in the field of quantum technologies, supporting systems engineering and documentation processes, including the development of materials, such as quad charts and metrics. This role requires experience in aligning technical solutions with the needs of DoD platforms and working closely with various DoD Service elements. The ideal candidate is a highly skilled professional who can effectively bridge the gap between complex technical requirements and practical application within existing and future DoD Service programs.
Key Responsibilities:
• Provide technical expertise in quantum engineering, offering insights into emerging technologies and their potential applications within DoD platforms. Understand quantum sensors and quantum-based clocks supporting position, navigation, and timing (PNT) applications.
• Collaborate with technology developers and systems engineering teams to integrate quantum technologies into existing and future systems, ensuring alignment with DoD standards and requirements.
• Develop and maintain documentation, including quad charts, technical reports, and presentations that clearly articulate complex quantum engineering concepts and project progress.
• Establish, track, and report on key performance metrics related to quantum engineering initiatives, ensuring that projects meet defined objectives and milestones.
• Work closely with various DoD Service elements to understand their technical needs, provide recommendations, and develop solutions that are tailored to their specific platform requirements.
• Analyze technical requirements and identify opportunities where quantum technologies may enhance DoD capabilities, providing guidance on implementation strategies.
• Work within the Quantum Science team and leadership to report on technical progress and maintain awareness of program progress. Serve as a liaison between Quantum Science team and DoD stakeholders, facilitating effective communication and ensuring technical developments align with strategic objectives.
• Identify potential risks associated with the integration of quantum technologies and develop mitigation strategies to address technical and operational challenges.
• Remain abreast of the latest advancements in quantum engineering and related fields, contributing to ongoing research efforts and identifying innovative solutions for DoD applications.
