ASRC Federal Technical Services is seeking a Senior Integration Systems Engineer to join our Terminal Flight Data Manager (TFDM) team that supports the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). This is a 100% on-site, full-time position at the William J Hughes Technical Center (WJHTC) in Egg Harbor Township, NJ.
TFDM is the surface management solution for the FAA's Next Generation Air Transportation System (NextGen). With growing congestion on the airport surface due to the increase in commercial air traffic nationwide, the need for efficient aircraft traffic planning on the airport ground is critical. TFDM will be:
- Modernizing the air traffic control tower equipment by improving the exchange of electronic flight data and implementing electronic flight strips in the tower.
- Streamlining the flow of departures on the surface to save fuel and reduce CO2 emissions.
- Optimizing the experience for the flying public, Air Traffic Control (ATC), and the airline industry by improving the collaboration and decision-making capabilities between the gate and the tower.
We are looking for an experienced individual to work independently and in a team environment. This individual will/may provide experience/knowledge:
- Attends and may lead meetings, design reviews, working groups and briefings.
- Reports issues and problems and recommends solutions. Performs other related duties in line with tasks assignments.
- Highly technical engineer possesses expertise in National Airspace System (NAS) programs and its state-of-the-art systems. Applicable functional areas include superior proficiency and knowledge of the NAS system hardware and software, knowledge of FAA procedural requirements, real-time design and development, testing and interface of software and computer hardware systems, regression impact analysis, reliability, maintainability, human factors, standardization and other reengineering regarding FAA missions and NAS systems.
- Perform system-wide analysis and functional allocations, business process modeling and reengineering external operating systems, databases, and network architectures, specialty engineering (e.g., communications, systems safety, quality assurance, test and evaluation, systems security, and configuration and data information systems, etc.).
- Interprets and analyzes complex information systems data to develop security related technical documentation, system diagrams, and presentation materials.
- Coordinates and performs information systems security hardware and software testing efforts, produces test and remediation plans and reports, and handles implementation of computer hardware and software for operational systems.
- Assists in assessing complex problems and investigates, develops, appraises, selects, and presents solutions.
- Duties include an interdisciplinary approach using engineering principles.
- Assists in specifications development, implementation, testing and documenting engineering systems and equipment.
- Initiates concept development and trade-off studies.
- Directs the design of electronic or mechanical devices down to the subsystem level.
- Devises appropriate tests to use in evaluating, debugging, and checking of equipment and systems for accurate and dependable conformance to specifications.
- Software requirements analysis, design, design reviews, development, software testing, integration, installation, and maintenance of complex computer systems.
- Software programming in the languages used for NAS and NAS support systems. This includes languages such as C, C++, Java, Python, SQL, Assembly, HTML 5/XHTML, CSS, PHP, JavaScript, and JSON.
Citizenship/Permanent Residency Requirement

- Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Math, or related technical field and at least fifteen (15) years of related work experience in a specific engineering principle . OR
- Master's Degree in Engineering, Math, or related technical field and at least twelve (12) years in a specific engineering principle .
Essential Daily Job Duties
- Provide 2nd Level Engineering support for TFDM.
- Develop and maintain integration plans that detail the sequencing, timing, and technical steps required for TFDM deployment across NAS facilities.
- Collaborate with FAA stakeholders (e.g., AJM, AJT, AJW, ANG) and contractors to align integration schedules and deliverables with broader NAS modernization efforts.
- Support the design and management of system interfaces between TFDM and other systems such as STARS, ERAM, SWIM, TBFM, and external stakeholders (airlines, airports, surface surveillance systems).
- Ensure compatibility and data integrity across all TFDM interfaces, including the use of FIXM and SWIM-compliant formats.
- Develop integration test plans and participate in system integration testing (SIT), factory acceptance testing (FAT), and site acceptance testing (SAT).
- Identify, isolate, and resolve integration defects across TFDM subsystems and interfacing systems.
- Support the technical aspects of TFDM site implementation activities, including adaptation data validation, system configuration, and equipment compatibility assessments.
- Coordinate with Deployment Leads and Site Implementation Teams to ensure successful system activation at terminal facilities.
- Ensure all integration activities adhere to FAA requirements, including DO-278A software assurance levels, cybersecurity policies, and safety risk management documentation.
- Support updates to the System Requirements Specification (SRS), Interface Control Documents (ICDs), and Site-Specific Implementation Plans (SSIPs).
- Investigate and troubleshoot system integration issues using logs, diagnostic tools, and coordination with software and hardware engineers.
- Conduct root cause analysis for system failures or integration anomalies during lab and live operations.
- Create and maintain integration documentation including network diagrams, interface specifications, integration checklists, and test reports.
- Contribute to the creation of system-level engineering artifacts for configuration management and baseline control.
- Work closely with TFDM software developers, hardware engineers, cybersecurity analysts, and program managers to ensure aligned integration activities.
- Coordinate with external stakeholders such as airport operations, airline partners, and OEMs to ensure real-time surface data exchange and operational readiness.
- Identify and document risks associated with integration activities and propose mitigation strategies.
- Support the TFDM IPT in resolving integration risks and technical dependencies across programs (e.g., TFMS, SWIM, TBFM).
- Recommend enhancements to integration processes, tools, and test automation to improve system deployment efficiency and reliability.
- Stay current with FAA NextGen initiatives and surface management advancements to ensure TFDM evolves in alignment with future technologies.
Work Environment
- Full-time position with a standard flexible work schedule and occasional non-standard work hours.
- Moderate travel (likely > 25%).
