ASRC Federal Technical Services is seeking a Senior Installation Specialist to join our Terminal Flight Data Manager (TFDM) team that supports the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). This is a 100% on-site, full-time position at the William J Hughes Technical Center (WJHTC) in Egg Harbor Township, NJ.

TFDM is the surface management solution for the FAA's Next Generation Air Transportation System (NextGen). With growing congestion on the airport surface due to the increase in commercial air traffic nationwide, the need for efficient aircraft traffic planning on the airport ground is critical. TFDM will be:
  • Modernizing the air traffic control tower equipment by improving the exchange of electronic flight data and implementing electronic flight strips in the tower.
  • Streamlining the flow of departures on the surface to save fuel and reduce CO2 emissions.
  • Optimizing the experience for the flying public, Air Traffic Control (ATC), and the airline industry by improving the collaboration and decision-making capabilities between the gate and the tower.


We are looking for an experienced individual to work independently and in a team environment. This individual will/may provide experience/knowledge:
  • Highly technical computer scientist with expertise in the National Airspace System (NAS) programs and its state-of-the-art systems. Applicable functional areas include superior proficiency and knowledge of the NAS system hardware and software, knowledge of FAA procedural requirements, real-time design and development, testing and interface of software and computer hardware systems, regression impact analysis, reliability, maintainability, human factors, standardization and other reengineering regarding FAA missions and NAS systems.
  • Perform system-wide analysis and functional allocations, business process modeling and reengineering, internal operating systems, databases, and network architectures. Using prescribed methods and information furnished, develops draft inputs to program documentation as it relates to any of the support functions.
  • Performs assignments on a broad range of tasks associated with the implementation of standards techniques, procedures, and criteria as they apply to technical tasks.
  • Develops new technology, modifies the structure of existing software products, and provides technical guidance to complex projects. Reviews final draft documents for conformity to requirements and completeness.
  • Tracks preparation and delivery status of required deliverables.
  • Attends and may lead meetings, design reviews, working groups and briefings.
  • Reports issues and problems and recommends solutions. Performs other related duties in line with tasks assignments.
  • Software requirements analysis, design, design reviews, development, software testing, integration, installation, and maintenance of complex computer systems.
  • Software programming in the languages used for NAS and NAS support systems. This includes languages such as Python, SQL, and XML.
  • Deployment activities on site.


Citizenship/Permanent Residency Requirement

All candidates must have the following to pass the Federal Background Investigation and obtain the FAA Public Trust security clearance.
  • Be a US Citizen, have a US Green Card, or a Non-immigrant Work Authorization (VISA).
  • Has resided in the US for three (3) consecutive years.
  • The company is unable to sponsor candidates at this time.


Relocation Requirement

Candidate must reside or be willing to relocate within a commutable distance to Egg Harbor Township, NJ.

Education Requirement

All non-US Degrees must have a US Equivalency Certificate provided by the candidate.
  • Bachelor of Science in Computer Science or Math, or a Bachelor's degree in another technical field with a minimum of thirty (30) semester hours in a combination of mathematics, statistics, and computer science and at least fifteen (15) years of related work experience in a computer science or math field . OR
    • Master's Degree in any field of study with a minimum of thirty (30) semester hours of either undergrad or grad study in a combination of mathematics, statistics, and computer science and at least twelve (12) years related work experience in a computer science or math field .

Essential Daily Job Duties
  • Provide 2nd Level Engineering support for TFDM.
  • Lead or support the installation, configuration, and validation of TFDM software components on operational hardware at field sites and in lab environments.
  • Ensure proper loading of software builds, patch sets, and configuration files in accordance with FAA-approved deployment packages.
  • Perform software readiness checks prior to deployment, ensuring required baselines, dependencies, and adaptation files are validated and properly staged.
  • Coordinate closely with TFDM integration, adaptation, and hardware teams to align deployment timing and system configurations.
  • Customize and tune software settings based on site-specific adaptation data, including runway configuration, surface traffic rules, and airspace procedures.
  • Validate alignment between TFDM software and interfacing systems such as STARS, ERAM, TBFM, and surveillance feeds.
  • Participate in Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), Site Acceptance Testing (SAT), and Operational Readiness Demonstrations (ORD) to verify system functionality.
  • Document and resolve discrepancies discovered during installation or testing events.
  • Diagnose and resolve software-related problems, including interface errors, data corruption, configuration mismatches, or application crashes.
  • Collaborate with software development teams and vendors to escalate and resolve complex software defects.
  • Support version control, rollback planning, and patch management for TFDM deployments.
  • Track and implement software updates as issued by FAA TFDM Program Office or system vendors, ensuring compliance with software release procedures.
  • Verify successful data exchange and message flow between TFDM and external systems (e.g., SWIM, ASDE-X, Flight Object Exchange).
  • Test FIXM and XML message formatting, timing, and content accuracy during installation and integration phases.
  • Implement secure software configurations in alignment with FAA cybersecurity policies and system accreditation boundaries.
  • Ensure software deployments follow access control protocols, system hardening guidelines, and data protection requirements.
  • Maintain comprehensive installation logs, configuration records, deployment guides, and change documentation for each site.
  • Support formal configuration audits and site certification processes.
  • Work closely with site implementation leads, FAA facility personnel, airport operators, and contractors to support system activation and user transition.
  • Provide on-site or remote technical support during critical events such as initial operating capability (IOC) and full operational capability (FOC).


Work Environment
  • Full-time position with a standard flexible work schedule and occasional non-standard work hours.
  • Significant travel (likely > 50%).
  • Cubicle environment.
