Platform Engineer — Al Udeid Air Base (AUAB), Doha, Qatar
Clearance: Active DoD Secret required
Certifications: DoD 8570 IAT Level II (e.g., Security+ CE) required
Shift: On-site; rotating 24/7 coverage (may support 2nd/3rd shift for emergencies)
Program overview
Support AFLCMC/HBBK and Kessel Run by operating and modernizing resilient, high‑availability infrastructure for mission‑critical software across classified, hybrid, and cloud‑native environments at CONUS and OCONUS sites.
Role summary
Individual contributor responsible for secure operation, automation, and reliability of platform services that support classified workloads. Collaborate with a global engineering team, provide clear asynchronous handoffs, and participate in rotating shift coverage. Reports to on‑site team lead.
Key responsibilities
Deploy, operate, and maintain enterprise platform services (e.g., Kubernetes, Cloud Foundry) on private and public cloud.
Automate ops tasks and build resilient CI/CD pipelines.
Troubleshoot and resolve high‑impact outages.
Improve scalability, observability, and developer experience with cross‑functional teams.
Cross‑train and share knowledge across shifts and locations.
Manage IAM controls and access lifecycle.
Maintain documentation, tooling standards, and process improvements.
Support 24/7 operations, including weekends/holidays as needed.
Act with ownership and a mission‑partner mindset.
Required qualifications (years of experience included)
2+ years operating containerized services in production (Kubernetes or Cloud Foundry).
2+ years troubleshooting software outages in mission‑critical/enterprise environments.
2+ years supporting platform services on cloud (AWS/Azure/GCP) or virtualization (vSphere).
2+ years in DevOps/Platform Ops/SRE focused on automation and reliability.
2+ years managing IAM and access lifecycle in compliance environments.
Proficient scripting (Python or Bash) and Linux administration.
Strong networking knowledge (TCP/IP, DNS, HTTP).
Familiar with cloud‑native patterns, microservices, and delivery pipelines.
Excellent written/verbal communication for asynchronous coordination.
Active DoD Secret clearance and DoD 8570 IAT Level II certification.
Preferred
Experience with GitOps (ArgoCD/Flux), service mesh (Istio/Linkerd).
Observability tools (Prometheus, Grafana, ELK).
Mentoring or knowledge‑sharing experience.
Experience in forward‑deployed, high‑tempo, or DoD/Air Force environments.
Location & requirements
On‑site at AUAB, Qatar. Must meet CENTCOM travel and medical readiness. U.S. federal holidays honored; flexible leave accrual to support operational schedule.
Compensation:
$180,000 to $200,000 per year annual salary.
