Elevator Technician installs, services, troubleshoots, and repairs a multitude of different electrical and mechanical systems. Elevator mechanics assemble, install, maintain, and repair freight and passenger elevators. Majority of work and expertise is associated with the installation, servicing, troubleshooting, and repairing of industrial/commercial type elevator systems.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot, repair, modify and maintain elevators, and hoist way electrical systems which includes but is not limited to replacing defective lights; push buttons; covers; switches; electric eyes; door operator motors; wiring; gongs/bells; indicator sockets cover; safety edge and electric eye cords.
  • Interpret blueprints to determine layout of system components. Install elevators and other related equipment according to specifications.
  • Perform scheduled maintenance and minor repair to equipment room electrical systems which include checking, cleaning, and replacing contacts in elevator controller and selector relays; coils; fuses; motors; generator brushes; defective wiring; terminals; resistors, diodes, and other components on panels.
  • Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain electrical or mechanical system failures. Test operation of newly installed equipment and disassemble defective units and repair, replace, adjust valves, ratchets, seals brake linings and other components. Accomplish diagnostic testing and repair of electronic controls.
  • Carry out preventative programs to ensure public safety.
  • Accountable for:

Qualifications

  • Must have a minimum of 5 years Journeyman experience working with elevators. The type of elevators including Hydraulic, Traction, Chair Lifts, and Kone Mono Space.
  • State of Alabama elevator certification.
  • Must be capable of effectively reading, writing, and learning to effectively read and interpret blueprints and drawings.
  • Must have and maintain a valid state driver's license with acceptable driving record pertinent to the position.
  • Ability to successfully pass any background checks and/or drug testing required on the contract.
  • Must be capable of lifting minimum of 40 pounds.
  • Must be able to receive a security clearance for access to material up to and including SECRET and/or pass a National Agency Check.
