Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled Database Administrator to support mission-critical systems by managing relational and non-relational databases across classified and unclassified environments. This role focuses on AWS-hosted solutions, automation, data orchestration, and maintaining data integrity across systems. Ideal candidates will bring a strong understanding of cloud database architecture, data pipelines, and infrastructure automation.
Key Responsibilities
Administer and maintain multiple databases in both unclassified and classified AWS environments
Provide system administration for core data-related AWS services
Deploy and manage AWS-hosted database solutions (EC2, S3, RDS, etc.)
Monitor and optimize database performance, ensuring uptime and scalability
Implement security best practices, disaster recovery, and backup/recovery strategies
Manage data life cycles, quality, ingestion, transformation, and modeling
Leverage cross domain solutions (e.g., AWS Diode) for secure data exchanges
Automate database maintenance tasks using scripting and orchestration tools
Design and manage cloud-based data pipelines using AWS services (Lambda, EKS, Kubernetes, etc.)
Required Skills
Minimum of 5 years' experience in database engineering/administration
2+ years hands-on experience with AWS services and database management
Strong knowledge of relational and non-relational databases
Understanding of data migration, replication, modeling, and modernization
Experience with automation, scripting (Python or Bash), and infrastructure as code
Proficiency in performance tuning, data quality assurance, and disaster recovery planning
Ability to orchestrate data pipelines and apply programming concepts to data workflows
Certifications
Required: IAT Level II certification (e.g., Security+, CCNA Security, SSCP)
Preferred: AWS Certifications (e.g., AWS Certified Database - Specialty, AWS SysOps Administrator)
Desired Skills (Optional)
Proficiency in AWS-native tools and services: Kubernetes, EKS, Diode, Lambda
Experience with secure data movement across classified environments
Familiarity with cloud orchestration and containerized database deployment
