Duties

As a SURFACE MAINTENANCE MECHANIC SUPERVISOR, (MILITARY) WS-5801-11, you will plan use of subordinate workers, equipment, facilities, and materials on a week-to-week or month-to-month basis. Assign tasks to be performed based on readiness and explain work requirements, methods, and procedures. Plan and establish overall leave schedules. Perform non-supervisory work, such as, transporting equipment, performing maintenance tasks, etc. Develop, publish, and ensure employee compliance with standing operating procedures for the activity supervised. Prepare for and participate in various types of readiness evaluations, inspections, mobilization and command support exercises. Perform other duties as assigned.

  • This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the employing state's National Guard, required prior to the effective date of placement.

  • Applicants who are not currently a member of the National Guard must be eligible for immediate membership and employment in the National Guard in the military grade listed in this announcement.

  • Participation in direct deposit is mandatory.
  • This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968. An individual convicted of a qualifying crime of domestic violence may not perform the duties of this position.

  • Preplacement Medical Requirements: Selectee will be required to undergo medical testing, at the expense of the government, prior to beginning employment. Medical tests are used to determine fitness and eligibility for employment.
  • For positions requiring the operation of motor vehicles, candidates must have a valid state driver's license for the state in which they live or are principally employed.
Qualifications

Military Grades: WO1 through WO3

GENERAL EXPERIENCE : Must have experience or training which demonstrates knowledge of equipment to be able to do routine jobs, simple preventative maintenance tasks, and can use common tools and equipment in the line of work.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE : In addition to the journeyman level knowledge, you must have 36 months experience which demonstrates the ability to plan, direct, and organize work assignments for lower grade personnel; experience which required the review of work requirements and establish priorities to meet deadlines; experience that provided knowledge of various lines of work performed by this function; experience which demonstrates the ability to supervise or the potential to perform such duties as evidenced by the ability to communicate knowledge of general supervisory concepts, and knowledge of shop processes; experience in adapting existing equipment and techniques to new situations.
