Tyto Athene is searching for a Data Engineer (ETL) - Journeyman to support U.S. Southern Command on the SCITES II Contract in Doral, Florida. Positions are located both CONUS/OCONUS at the SOUTHCOM HQ in Doral, FL, and at the TSOC and other locations abroad (GTMO, Honduras, Colombia etc.).
The Journeyman Data Engineer provides the mechanisms to characterize, shape, and normalize data within the Enterprise Information Environment (EIE) to enable data-centric operations, resulting in decisive military advantage. This position ensures data is clean, accurate, and available for downstream applications while optimizing pipeline performance and reliability.

The Journeyman Data Engineer provides the mechanisms to characterize, shape, and normalize data within the Enterprise Information Environment (EIE) to enable data-centric operations, resulting in decisive military advantage. This position ensures data is clean, accurate, and available for downstream applications while optimizing pipeline performance and reliability.
Responsibilities:
- Leverages both new and existing internal and external strategies, technologies, and policies to make data accessible, secure, and effectively utilized in support of USSOUTHCOM decision-making frameworks
- Establishes a seamless, interoperable, accessible, and resilient data bus (common storage location) for the EIE, integrating all new services and capabilities into the data bus
- Develops, maintains, and institutionalizes common data interface specifications for all information systems
- Provides data asset information to support the U.S. Government in populating mission-aligned federated data catalogs, facilitating the effective sharing and utilization of data across the enterprise
- Build, maintain, and optimize ETL workflows using tools like Talend, Informatica, Apache Nifi, or custom code (Python, SQL)
- Collaborate with data architects and analysts to understand data needs and develop transformation logic
- Automate data validations and error-handling procedures to ensure data integrity
- Maintain metadata, lineage, and documentation for all ETL processes
- Assist in performance tuning of SQL queries and job schedules
- Work closely with cybersecurity teams to ensure compliance with data protection policies
- Troubleshoot issues across multiple environments and collaborate with DevOps and cloud teams
Qualifications
Required:
- Associate's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Engineering or related field
- 4-9 years of experience with ETL development in enterprise environments
- Strong Knowledge of SQL and relational databases
- Hands-on experience with ETL tools and scripting languages
Desired:
- Bachelor's degree in related field
- Familiarity with DoD or IC data environments
- Experience with cloud-native ETL
- Certification in ETL tools or cloud data services
- Experience integrating with data lakes and API
Clearance:
- TS/SCI clearance required
Certification:
- DoD 8570 Baseline & CE certifications are required for all positions and may vary slightly depending on the skillset required to perform the role
- CompTIA Security+ CE
