Position Type: Full-time Onsite

Waypoint's client is seeking a Senior Engineering Subject Matter Expert (SME) to lead and provide technical oversight for the IBCS Increment 3 program. This role supports the Project Management Office by ensuring engineering rigor across the system lifecycle, from requirements and design to testing, integration, and fielding. The ideal candidate will have deep experience in systems engineering, particularly within Air and Missile Defense systems, and a strong understanding of Agile methodologies applied to complex military systems.

Responsibilities:
  • Serve as the IBCS Increment 3 Engineering SME and technical authority for Air and Missile Defense Systems.
  • Apply Agile principles to the engineering lifecycle, including requirements definition, traceability, MBSE, configuration management, hardware/software development, and platform integration.
  • Oversee system and component qualification, technology insertion testing, failure review boards, producibility, modeling and simulation, reliability, and in-service support.
  • Lead all technical aspects of IBCS Increment 3 to ensure alignment with system requirements and PMO objectives.
  • Coordinate with cross-functional teams and external agencies to ensure programmatic and technical cohesion.
  • Support recruitment, development, and retention of top-tier engineering talent for the Increment 3 effort.
  • Develop and deliver technical briefings and information papers for senior leadership, including Army Acquisition Executive, ASA(ALT), OSD Systems Engineering, and AT&L stakeholders.
  • Maintain configuration and control of Technical Data Packages, engineering documentation, and system baselines.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in a STEM field.
  • Minimum of 15 years of relevant engineering experience; SME/senior-level expertise required.
  • Proven experience applying Agile methodologies to military system development.
  • Strong understanding of RF and IP network implementation in defense systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively across technical and executive levels.
  • Experience managing Technical Data Packages (drawings, diagrams, specs).
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office tools (Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel).
  • Collaborative, proactive, and results-oriented mindset.
Desired:
  • Master's degree in STEM field.
  • Agile SAFe Engineering certifications.
  • Prior experience with DoD acquisition lifecycle and fielded system support.
  • Familiarity with engineering processes for developing retrofit kits and supporting sustainment activities.
