GridironIT is seeking a Software Engineer is responsible for the design, development, testing, and management of application development projects in support of IT infrastructure. This includes programmatic integration of third-party components, introduction of new custom capabilities, modification of existing code, process improvement recommendations, and automation of operations and maintenance tasks. The Software Engineer develops and implements technical efforts to design, build, and deploy applications under the direction of lead architects, including large-scale data processing, computationally intensive statistical modeling, and advanced analytics. This role participates in all aspects of the software development life cycle for all solutions, including planning, requirements, development, testing, and quality assurance.
3 Different Scope Areas:
The Administrative Applications Unit (AAU) provides software application development and support services to the enterprise for administrative functions. AAU develops, maintains, and supports a portfolio of custom-built and commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) products for customers throughout the FBI, including the Human Resources Division, Security Division, Office of the Chief Information Officer, Inspection Division, and Training Division, among others. AAU partners with and implements technical solutions for these customer divisions to meet their specific business needs. AAU uses Java 2 Enterprise Edition (J2EE) and Oracle Application Express (APEX) to provide web-based application support and conducts regular operations and maintenance (O&M) to keep the applications it services secure and operating effectively and efficiently.
The Investigative and Intelligence Application Unit (IIAU) provides software application development and operational support to the FBI’s investigative and intelligence workforce. IIAU develops, maintains, and supports a portfolio of custom-built products for customers throughout the FBI, including the Criminal Cyber Response and Services Branch (CCRSB), Intelligence Branch (IB), and National Security Branch (NSB). The technical solutions IIAU provides enables customers to meet their specific mission needs and collaborate with internal and external partners. IIAU provides web-based application support and conducts regular operations and maintenance (O&M) to keep the applications it services secure and operating effectively and efficiently.
The Web Services Unit (WSU) provides software development tools and solutions to the FBI workforce to facilitate collaboration and enable rapid response to mission demands. WSU manages the FBI’s SharePoint environment across enclaves, provides on-demand SharePoint sites to customers, connects the FBI and DOJ through Bridge and the FISA Management System (FISAMS), and supports secure intelligence reporting to the FBI Director and senior executives through the Enterprise Briefing System (EBS). WSU also manages the Microsoft 365 Power Platform which enables users to build applications and workflows to improve their business processes.
Key Responsibilities:
• Design, develop, test, and manage application development projects in support of IT infrastructure.
• Integrate third-party components programmatically and introduce new custom capabilities.
• Modify existing code to enhance functionality and performance.
• Recommend process improvements and automate operations and maintenance tasks.
• Develop and implement technical efforts to design, build, and deploy applications under the direction of lead architects.
• Work on large-scale data processing, computationally intensive statistical modeling, and advanced analytics.
• Participate in all aspects of the software development life cycle, including planning, requirements, development, testing, and quality assurance.
• Conduct technical project milestone reviews, code architecture sessions, resource estimation, and development best practices knowledge transfer.
Qualifications:
• Proven experience in software development and application management.
• Strong knowledge of application design, development, testing, and management.
• Experience with programmatic integration of third-party components.
• Proficiency in modifying existing code and introducing new custom capabilities.
• Ability to recommend and implement process improvements and automation.
• Experience with Microsoft 365 Power Platform and SharePoint.
• Experience with large-scale data processing, statistical modeling, and advanced analytics.
• Strong understanding of the software development life cycle, including planning, requirements, development, testing, and quality assurance.
• Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Preferred Skills:
• Experience working under the direction of lead architects.
• Familiarity with technical project milestone reviews and code architecture sessions.
• Knowledge of resource estimation and development best practices.
• Ability to transfer knowledge and mentor team members.

Compensation and Benefits:
Salary Range: $130,000-200,000 (Compensation is determined by various factors, including but not limited to location, work experience, skills, education, certifications, seniority, and business needs. This range may be modified in the future.)
