Summary
We are seeking a skilled Systems Engineer II with deep expertise in VMware technologies to support the design, deployment, and maintenance of on-premises cloud infrastructure. The ideal candidate will have experience with VMware vSphere, NSX, vRealize Suite, and Site Recovery Manager, and will serve as a subject matter expert (SME) for all VMware environments. This role involves ensuring high availability, performance, and security across virtualized environments, while also supporting automation and integration with Windows and Linux systems.
Responsibilities
Design, deploy, test, and maintain VMware components including hypervisor, vSphere, NSX, vRealize Suite, and Site Recovery Manager.
Serve as SME for all VMware environments and support the on-premises cloud infrastructure.
Create and maintain software-defined data center infrastructure for both bare-metal and virtual machines.
Automate provisioning and configuration of server resources.
Evaluate and enhance information security across the virtualized infrastructure.
Monitor and resolve storage issues, implement recovery processes, and address performance bottlenecks.
Install, configure, and maintain system management tools and server plugins.
Ensure high availability and performance of systems and infrastructure.
Monitor application performance, identify bottlenecks, and collaborate with developers to implement solutions.
Maintain security, backup, and redundancy strategies.
Develop and maintain custom scripts to automate tasks and improve system efficiency.
Participate in the design of information and operational support systems.
Provide third-level support and liaise with vendors and IT personnel for issue resolution.
Maintain up-to-date technical documentation, including system inventory, patch levels, and configuration details.
Integrate systems with Windows and Linux, and implement multi-factor authentication solutions.
Provide real-time reporting on resource utilization and performance metrics.
Transition knowledge to government staff through training and documentation.
Qualification
Active Top Secret clearance
Active VMware Data Center Virtualization (DCV) certification within the last five years.
Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field.
Minimum of 8 years of experience in VMware systems engineering.
Required Skills/Technologies
Expertise in VMware vSphere, NSX, vRealize Suite, and Site Recovery Manager.
Experience with software-defined data centers and infrastructure automation.
Strong scripting skills for automation (e.g., PowerShell, Python).
Familiarity with Windows and Linux system integration.
Knowledge of security best practices and compliance in virtualized environments.
Preferred Qualifications:
Advanced VMware certifications such as Cloud Management and Automation (DCV-CMA).
Experience with multi-factor authentication and secure system integration.
Familiarity with Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) provisioning and monitoring tools.
