Description

Are you passionate about designing and prototyping cutting-edge RF and electrical systems for real-world maritime applications?

Do you enjoy solving complex electrical design challenges, integrating shipboard systems, and developing rapid prototypes that are tested at sea?

Are you skilled in RF system design, modeling, and hands-on characterization?

If so, we are looking for someone like you to join our team at APL!

We are seeking a Maritime Electrical Engineer with a strong background in RF and electrical systems to support the development of advanced shipboard electronics—from initial concept through rapid prototyping and field testing. You'll work alongside a team to design, build, and deliver innovative systems that directly impact national security missions at sea.

As a Maritime Electrical Engineer, you will...
  • Develop shipboard systems applying core electrical skills in analog, digital, and RF circuit/circuit board design for rapid-fielding maritime systems.
  • Perform testing and quality control for maritime systems in both a lab environment and during integration onto U.S. Navy platforms.
  • Document designs and prepare technical reports to support electrical integration and installation onto maritime platforms.
  • Lead a team of engineers to research new technologies and develop prototypes to analyze new emerging capabilities.

Qualifications

You meet our minimum requirements for the job if you...
  • Possess a B.S. in Electrical Engineering.
  • Have 5+ years of experience in the design, assembly, or testing of electrical systems.
  • Have experience leading electrical engineering tasks or projects, including mentoring junior engineers.
  • Have demonstrated proficiency in analog/digital circuit design, RF systems, antenna systems, and embedded systems.
  • Have experience with RF lab equipment (e.g., spectrum/network analyzers, signal generators, oscilloscopes).
  • Have working knowledge of RF fundamentals and tools.
  • Are willing to work periodically on an U.S. Navy vessel with a complementary team of technical experts.
  • Can support travel required to attend meetings and testing. This could include travel to U.S. Navy facilities with possible embarkation on U.S. Naval vessels for short periods. Travel may be required to support testing and evaluation of equipment.
  • Are able to obtain an interim Secret level security clearance by your start date and can ultimately obtain a Top-Secret level clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship.

You'll go above and beyond our minimum requirements if you...
  • Have a M.S. in Electrical engineering or equivalent work experience.
  • Have completed graduate level courses in or are proficient with analog circuit design, RF circuit design, antennas and electromagnetics.
  • Has served as a project manager or section supervisor for electrical engineers or electrical engineer projects.
  • Have a strong understanding of network parameters and RF circuit solver tools to design RF systems and solve RF and electromagnetic problems.
  • Have experience using full wave EM solver tools such as ADS.
  • Have familiarity with link budget analysis and deriving system requirements.
  • Have familiarity with antenna types, patterns, antenna simulation tools and measurement techniques.
  • Have demonstrated experience with designing, fabricating, and testing of printed circuit boards and experience using Altium or similar.
  • Have experience with VLF, HF, VHF, UHF systems.
  • Have experience with Navy electronics and systems, shipboard installations and procedures, and the Navy’s Temporary Alteration process (TEMPALT).
  • Have an active Top Secret level security clearance.
