We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Platform Engineer to join our team. As a Platform Engineer, you will be responsible for designing, implementing, and improving our platform using open-source and enterprise solutions. You will evaluate the current platform & service mesh, identify areas for improvement, and make updates to ensure it remains efficient, scalable, and secure. Key Responsibilities
  • Design and Implement Innovative Solutions: Prototype, develop, and implement new solutions to enhance our platform service mesh capabilities, leveraging tools such as Helm, Argo CD, GitLab, and Harbor, following GitOps principles.
  • Operate and Maintain Istio Service Mesh: Manage and maintain our Istio service mesh offering, advocating for best practices around microservices communication, service discovery, and zero-trust networking.
  • Ensure Security, Scalability, and Reliability: Proactively ensure the platform service mesh's security, scalability, and reliability by implementing industry best practices and utilizing appropriate tools.
  • Ensure Platform Health: Ensure high availability and performance of service mesh deployments through monitoring, alerting, and proactive maintenance.
  • Optimize Platform Performance: Identify bottlenecks and optimize platform performance to ensure scalability and meet the growing demands of the organization.
  • Support Application Development Teams: Provide technical guidance and operational support to application development teams, lead incident response and troubleshooting efforts related to service mesh and networking issues.
  • Collaborate for Continuous Improvement: Collaborate with development teams to streamline service mesh offerings and ensure improvements align with organizational goals.


Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in STEM
  • Active TS/SCI Clearance
  • Possess and maintain IAT Level II (CompTIA Security+, etc.) certification or higher as required by Air Force Manual (AFMAN) 17-1303, Department of Defense (DoD) Directive 8140.01, and DoD 8570.01-M.


Required Skills
  • Proficiency with Kubernetes and service mesh concepts.
  • Proficiency with Linux/Unix based Operating Systems.
  • Proficiency with Git version control.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a dynamic, agile environment.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.


Preferred Skills
  • 3+ years of experience working with Kubernetes and Istio or equivalent service mesh technologies.
  • Experience with containerization platforms such as Docker or Podman
  • Experience with observability tools such as Grafana, Prometheus, and FluentBit, along with application tracing technologies such as Jaeger or Tempo.
  • Experience with Identity and Access Management (IAM) and security principles.
  • Experience with Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) tools such as Terraform, Ansible, or CloudFormation.
  • Experience with scripting languages such as Python, Bash, or PowerShell.
  • Certification in Istio, Kubernetes, AWS, or related technologies.
