The Mechanical Engineering (ME) organization leads in mechanical hardware design, development, as well as production using state-of the-art tools, processes, technology, and Six Sigma principles. ME's capabilities encompass a broad range of technical disciplines which include engineering, manufacturing, technical services, materials, processes, analysis, test, and documentation.
The Shipboard Effectors Department is currently searching for an experienced Principal Mechanical Design Engineer to work on a multi-discipline team in support of the production of Shipboard Effectors products and subsystems located in Huntsville, AL (On-site).
This position requires a strong, dynamic leader to serve as the Sustainment Lead Engineer (SLE). The SLE will report to the Office of Chief Engineers (OCE) and Sustainment Program Manager and provide technical guidance as part of the Sustainment Execution Leadership Team.
The candidate will be the primary POC for Engineering, Operations, Supply Chain, and Quality sustainment questions and/or issues related to missile recertification. The SLE will be responsible for ensuring that each recertification round delivered to the customer meets all allocated requirements in accordance with the technical data package.
The candidate will work closely with Integrated Product Team Leads/Program Managers to ensure that engineering requirements are defined, risks are managed, and schedules/budgets are met.
The candidate will ensure Technical Data Packages are maintained and updated as necessary. Decisions must be data driven in nature and require preparing technical justification analysis reports as well as presenting to a variety of Engineering Review Boards. Experience with hardware integration and test, root cause and corrective action and failure investigation principles are strongly desired.

The salary range for this role is 101,000 USD - 203,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate's work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.

What You Will Do
- Must be willing to travel to suppliers and government facilities.
- Provide technical guidance as the Engineering representative for the Sustainment Execution Leadership Team
- Provide support of recertification activities at Raytheon Redstone Missile Integration Facility (RRMIF) as needed on Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville Alabama
- Collaborate with the Manufacturing Engineers, Production Test Engineers, Engineering IPT Leads, and REAs responsible for the product. These interactions will include but not be limited to review of test data, assistance in failure investigations, disposition of QNs/DPDs, etc.
- Interface directly with the customer as a technical representative
- Provide risk assessment of technical issues to OCE.
- Monitor and coordinate changes to the hardware/software configuration.
- Coordinate or facilitate configuration change management.
Qualifications You Must Have
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or similar Engineering discipline and 8 years of experience in mechanical design and/or production support.
- Project Management experience as technical leader of small engineer teams.
- Experience with 3D CAD tools (modeling and drawing)
- Experience with Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) per ANSI Y14.5
- The ability to obtain and maintain a US security clearance prior to the start date. U.S. citizenship is required as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.
Qualifications We Prefer
- Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Power Point & Project) Experience
- Mechanical aptitude to provide solutions to a variety of technical problems of moderate scope and complexity.
- Strong technical background with high technical aptitude
- Proficient in Creo (modeling and drawing) and Windchill (PDM)
- Active DoD issued security clearance.
