The Nuclear Weapons Technical Writer and Editor will provide comprehensive technical writing, editorial, and administrative support to the Joint Nuclear Weapons Publications System (JNWPS) Team within the NE-NL Logistics & Maintenance Division (NLMJ) of the Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA). This role requires an individual who is detail-oriented, organized, and capable of delivering high-quality technical publications in a classified and deadline-driven environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Draft, edit, and format technical publications for inclusion in the JNWPS, adhering to the Government Printing Office (GPO) Style Manual, JNWPS Continuity Book, and Technical Publication 1-1.
Support all stages of the publication lifecycle including Comment and Review, Consolidating Comments, and Final Product Review processes.
Resolve content issues and ensure consistency, accuracy, and compliance with established publication standards.
Collaborate closely with JNWPS management, project officers, and technical personnel to complete editorial tasks and meet mission requirements.
Provide editorial and documentation support during meetings, correspondence assignments, and publication coordination efforts.
Maintain publication tracking systems, including the Technical Publication Tracking System and the Publication Requirement Table for all accounts.
Create and manage internal documentation such as checklists, SIPR logs, DIAMONDS logs, customer interaction logs, and quality assurance documentation.
Upload finalized technical publications into the DIAMONDS database and ensure proper classification handling.
Conduct CD burn and distribution operations using ARL Safe and other approved distribution methods.
Coordinate and interface with JNWPS counterparts across DTRA and external partner organizations.
Develop and update reference materials and instructional documentation ("How to..." guides), and document key stakeholder communications as required.
Qualifications:
o 6 years of performing similar requirements and a BA/BS degree. 8 years of demonstrated experience with a High School Diploma.
o DARPA (Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency)
o DTRA (Defense Threat Reduction Agency) experience required
o Detail-oriented with strong editing skills.
o Proficiency in Adobe FrameMaker, Illustrator, Photoshop, Excel, and Adobe Acrobat.
o Excellent time management abilities and ability to function independently.
o Experience in drafting and editing technical publications.
o Ability to adhere to Government Printing Office Style Manual and JNWPS guidelines.
Submit IT support or publishing system trouble tickets when needed to resolve software or access issues.
Qualifications:
Demonstrated expertise in technical writing and editing within a defense or highly regulated environment.
Proficiency with publishing and graphic design software including Adobe FrameMaker, Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, Adobe Acrobat, and Microsoft Excel.
Exceptional time management skills and the ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities.
Strong attention to detail, task discipline, and commitment to quality assurance.
