Job Summary

Position: Equipment Specialist - Aviation

Location: Quantico, VA

Working Hours: 8:15am - 5:00pm, may vary depending on Division needs

Number of Positions Available: Multiple

Duration: Six Month Internship with Consideration for Full-Time Employment

Key Requirements for Internship
  • Must be a U.S. citizen
  • Must have an active Top-Secret Clearance
  • Must be approved or in the approval process to participate in the DOD's SkillBridge Program
  • Must have (or be able to obtain) a valid driver's license
  • Some travel may be required
  • Selectee will be required to complete form FD-887, Request for Access to Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI)

Major Duties
  • The Turbine Aircraft Equipment Specialist (TAES) is primarily responsible for ensuring mission capability of turbine powered aircraft along with piston engine aircraft by maintaining these aircraft to airworthiness standards as defined by the rules under which such aircraft are operated.
  • Tests equipment and cockpit gauges, instruments and controls as well as visual checks to troubleshoot (trace, identify, and locate) defects and determine the type and extent of repairs needed and to make the required repairs.
  • Replaces, aligns and adjusts whole new systems, assemblies and surfaces as needed, or repair them by installing and adjusting all defective components and parts such as complete flight control rigging, automatic fuel control installation and setup, power turbine governor setup, pumps, filters, bearings and cockpit controls.
  • Connects related systems, such as the hydraulic and flight control systems, to the newly installed or repaired units, and make adjustments to the units and their related mechanisms that assure their proper operation.
  • Interprets and updates computer data bases for information pertinent to making repairs, servicing procedures and recording aircraft event.

Preference will be given to candidates who possess the following certifications and/or professional trainings:
  • FAA A&P - Federal Aviation Administration Airframe and Powerplant Certificate
  • FAA IA - Federal Aviation Administration Inspection Authorization.

    • Memorandum for Record: Work performed outside assigned duties (that would not normally be documented on an SF-50,i. e.,back-up duties), has to be documented in detail by an immediate supervisor in order to receive full credit for amount of time worked in that position. If no documentation is furnished no credit will be given for time worked in that position. The following notations must be specified in the documentation (Memorandum for Record).
