Key Requirements for Internship
- Must be a U.S. citizen
- Must have an active Top-Secret Clearance
- Must be approved or in the approval process to participate in the DOD's SkillBridge Program
- Must have (or be able to obtain) a valid driver's license
- Some travel may be required
- Selectee will be required to complete form FD-887, Request for Access to Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI)
Major Duties
- The Turbine Aircraft Equipment Specialist (TAES) is primarily responsible for ensuring mission capability of turbine powered aircraft along with piston engine aircraft by maintaining these aircraft to airworthiness standards as defined by the rules under which such aircraft are operated.
- Tests equipment and cockpit gauges, instruments and controls as well as visual checks to troubleshoot (trace, identify, and locate) defects and determine the type and extent of repairs needed and to make the required repairs.
- Replaces, aligns and adjusts whole new systems, assemblies and surfaces as needed, or repair them by installing and adjusting all defective components and parts such as complete flight control rigging, automatic fuel control installation and setup, power turbine governor setup, pumps, filters, bearings and cockpit controls.
- Connects related systems, such as the hydraulic and flight control systems, to the newly installed or repaired units, and make adjustments to the units and their related mechanisms that assure their proper operation.
- Interprets and updates computer data bases for information pertinent to making repairs, servicing procedures and recording aircraft event.
