The Effector RF Products Team at Raytheon is seeking a talented Principal Engineer to join our team in Tucson, AZ.
The selected applicant will be responsible for the development of high-temperature RF structures and components, including radomes and antennas. They will identify suitable high-temperature materials such as Reaction Bonded Silicon Nitride (RBSN) or Ceramic Matrix Composites (CMCs) that meet the application requirements. Additionally, they will collaborate with suppliers to develop reliable manufacturing processes for these components and design and execute tests to assess their RF, thermal, and structural performance. The applicant will lead a team of approximately 10-20 employees and act as the primary liaison to key suppliers. Their scope of influence will exceed $20M.
This is an onsite role, located in Tucson, AZ.

This position requires a security clearance. DCSA Consolidated Adjudication Services (DCSA CAS), an agency of the Department of Defense, handles and adjudicates the security clearance process. The salary range for this role is 101,000 USD - 203,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate's work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.

What You Will Do:
- Develop RF structures and components, such as radomes and antennas, capable of withstanding extremely high temperatures and structural loads.
- Collaborate with suppliers to develop manufacturing processes for high-temperature ceramic materials, including Reaction Bonded Silicon Nitride (RBSN) and Ceramic Matrix Composites (CMCs).
- Coordinate efforts with various stakeholders, including programs, Internal Research and Development (IRAD) projects, customers, suppliers, and industry partners.
- Plan and execute testing to characterize the thermal, structural, and RF performance of the components.
- Lead and manage the technical work of a team consisting of 10-20 employees focused on high-temperature RF components.
- Act as the primary technical liaison to material and manufacturing suppliers as well as test facilities, ensuring effective communication and collaboration.
Qualifications You Must Have:
- Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 8 years of prior relevant experience unless prohibited by local laws/regulations.
- A minimum of 8 years of experience to include any combination of the following:
- Experience designing high-temperature RF structures using monolithic ceramic materials (e.g., RBSN) or ceramic matrix composites (CMCs).
- Experience manufacturing high-temperature RF materials (e.g., RBSN, CMC).
- Experience coordinating new material, component, or process development with multiple stakeholders, including program leadership, technical experts, customers, industry experts, and suppliers.
- Experience evaluating high-temperature RF materials for thermal, structural, and/or RF performance.
Qualifications We Prefer:
- Experience with coordination and execution of high temperature RF material tests such as Hot Gas Blow Down (HGBD), quartz lamp testing, vibration/shock, RF dielectric property characterization, leak testing, and other environmental testing
- Leadership of technical teams comprised of >10 people across multiple disciplines such as mechanical, RF, and systems with influence over >$10M of project scope
- Experience with creating technical content for program proposals
- Knowledge of RF characteristics of materials and their impact to RF system requirements
- Experience with material inspection and scanning techniques such as CT scan and ultrasound
- Experience with a wide array of suppliers associated with the development and manufacturing of RF structures (e.g. materials manufacturers, molding and machining shops, high temperature testing facilities, etc.)
- Involvement in IRAD projects related to RF structures and/or materials
- Excellent written communication and oral presentation skills
