Position Summary
The Department of Defense (DoD) seeks an experienced and technically proficient Project Manager to lead the development, integration, and deployment of UAV swarming and counter-swarming technologies. This role requires a strategic thinker and agile leader capable of managing high-stakes defense R&D programs that support future battlefield superiority through autonomy, AI, and multi-domain operations.
You will oversee cross-functional teams working on swarm control systems, AI coordination engines, mesh networking, kinetic and non-kinetic countermeasures, and advanced C2 architectures.
Key Responsibilities
Program Leadership
Drive end-to-end program execution for swarming and counter-swarming initiatives across development, testing, integration, and fielding.
Define and align project scope, milestones, and KPIs in coordination with military stakeholders, research labs, and industry partners.
Ensure program alignment with DoD modernization priorities and joint all-domain operations strategy.
Technical Oversight
Collaborate with AI/ML teams, systems engineers, and autonomy developers to ensure effective implementation of swarm coordination and distributed autonomy.
Evaluate emerging technologies in low-cost UAVs, mesh networking, EW resilience, and real-time threat engagement.
Oversee rigorous testing protocols, simulation environments, and field exercises.
Risk & Compliance Management
Identify and mitigate technical, operational, and cybersecurity risks.
Ensure compliance with acquisition, export control, and ethical AI policy frameworks.
Oversee integration of safety protocols in accordance with autonomy rules of engagement.
Stakeholder Engagement
Act as primary liaison between DoD stakeholders, contractors, FFRDCs, and other government agencies.
Prepare program briefs, white papers, and high-level updates for senior leadership and congressional stakeholders.
Engage with academic and innovation ecosystems to scout and integrate cutting-edge solutions.
Budget & Resource Management
Lead budget planning, cost analysis, and contract management activities in accordance with DoD acquisition guidelines (e.g., FAR/DFARS).
Manage subcontractor performance, vendor coordination, and procurement for prototyping phases.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in engineering, computer science, systems management, or related technical field; Master’s preferred.
7+ years of experience in DoD program management or defense technology development.
Demonstrated experience managing projects related to UAVs, autonomy, electronic warfare, or AI/ML systems.
Familiarity with Joint Capabilities Integration and Development System (JCIDS) and DoD 5000 series acquisition processes.
Deep understanding of operational challenges in counter-UAS, multi-agent coordination, and contested environments.
Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
