Looking for a Systems Safety and Risk Engineer to support critical Department of Defense programs. This position is ideal for an experienced safety engineer or a systems engineer with a strong interest in transitioning into system safety. The selected candidate will contribute to the safety lifecycle of advanced weapon and combat systems by identifying, assessing, and mitigating risks throughout the development and deployment process.

Looking for a Systems Safety and Risk Engineer to support critical Department of Defense programs. This position is ideal for an experienced safety engineer or a systems engineer with a strong interest in transitioning into system safety. The selected candidate will contribute to the safety lifecycle of advanced weapon and combat systems by identifying, assessing, and mitigating risks throughout the development and deployment process.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the planning, execution, and oversight of system safety programs in compliance with MIL-STD-882E and DA PAM 385-16.
- Conduct detailed safety and hazard analyses on complex hardware and software components in military systems including missiles, rockets, radars, and communication platforms.
- Develop and maintain Safety Assessment Reports, Hazard Analysis documentation, and Risk Assessments.
- Author and review program safety documentation such as System Safety Management Plans (SSMPs) and System Safety Program Plans (SSPPs).
- Analyze changes to system designs and evaluate safety implications, waivers, and exceptions.
- Review engineering documentation and test results to verify adherence to safety requirements.
- Participate in technical safety reviews and support Government safety certifications and approvals.
- Evaluate user interaction and human factors as part of safety assessments for weapon systems and support equipment.
- Coordinate with Government and contractor teams, test agencies, and safety offices to resolve safety concerns and define mitigation strategies.
- Contribute to safety-related content in contract deliverables such as Statements of Work and system specifications.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Science, or a related technical discipline.
- Demonstrated experience in Systems Engineering and safety disciplines.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to interface with customers and multidisciplinary teams.
- Willingness to travel up to 10%.
- Entry to Mid-Level: 3-10 years of relevant system safety experience.
- Senior/Subject Matter Expert (SME): 20+ years of applicable experience.
Desired:
- Master's degree in Engineering, Science, or a related technical field.
- Experience developing safety documentation for Army safety boards and review panels, such as: Fuze Safety Review Board, AMCOM Ignition System Safety Review Board (ISSRB), Software Systems Safety Technical Review Panel (SSSTRP)
- Background in safety input for acquisition documents (e.g., Statements of Work, Performance Specifications).
- Experience leading or participating in Sys tem Safety Working Groups or Integrated Product Teams (IPTs).
