Job Description
Tyto Athene is searching for a Database Administrator - Journeyman to support U.S. Southern Command on the SCITES II Contract in Doral, Florida.
The Journeyman Database Administrator is responsible for supporting the implementation, maintenance and troubleshooting of database environment for USSOUTCOM. This role involves working with senior DBAs and system engineers to ensure database systems operate efficiently, securely and in compliance with DoD cybersecurity policies.

Tyto Athene is searching for a Database Administrator - Journeyman to support U.S. Southern Command on the SCITES II Contract in Doral, Florida.
The Journeyman Database Administrator is responsible for supporting the implementation, maintenance and troubleshooting of database environment for USSOUTCOM. This role involves working with senior DBAs and system engineers to ensure database systems operate efficiently, securely and in compliance with DoD cybersecurity policies.
Responsibilities:
- Administer and maintain relational database systems (e.g., Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, PostgreSQL).
- Support installation, configuration, and patching of database software.
- Perform routine database maintenance and monitoring.
- Assist in implementing security controls in compliance with DoD STIGs and RMF.
- Monitor database backups and execute restore procedures as directed.
- Support performance tuning under the guidance of senior DBAs.
- Participate in data migration and integration projects.
- Maintain and update database documentation, including procedures and architecture diagrams.
- Troubleshoot basic database issues and escalate complex problems appropriately.
- Assist in audit preparation and vulnerability remediation efforts.
Required:
- Associate's degree in IT, Computer Science, or a related field preferred
- 4-9 years of experience in database administration
- Strong knowledge of SQL Server, Oracle, or PostgreSQL in enterprise environments
- Understanding of database security best practices
- Must meet DoD 8140/8570 IAT Level II certification requirements
Desired:
- Bachelor's degree in related field
- Experience with cloud-based databases or hybrid deployments
- Working knowledge of Linux or Windows environments
- Certifications in specific DB platforms
- Familiarity with high availability and disaster recovery strategies
Clearance:
- Secret clearance required
Certification:
- DoD 8570 Baseline & CE certifications are required for all positions and may vary slightly depending on the skillset required to perform the role
- CompTIA Security+ CE
- Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate (DP300)

- Compensation is unique to each candidate and relative to the skills and experience they bring to the position. This does not guarantee a specific salary as compensation is based upon multiple factors such as education, experience, certifications, and other requirements, and may fall outside of the above-stated range.
