Job Summary: The Network Engineer II designs, configures, deploys, and supports enterprise LAN/WAN/WLANs in mission-critical, multi-site environments. This role requires direct experience with Cisco networking technologies, wireless LAN controllers, and advanced routing/switching protocols. The Network Engineer II will participate in site surveys, architectural planning, lead deployments, and provide Tier III support while ensuring compliance with operational, performance, and security standards.

Key Responsibilities:
Design & Deploy
- Lead LAN/WAN/WLAN site surveys (pre-deployment and post-install), including RF spectrum analysis, capacity planning, and coverage validation.
- Design and implement wired and wireless network solutions, including VLAN architecture, trunking, routing, and network segmentation.
- Deploy and configure Cisco WLCs, Catalyst routers/switches, and Cisco APs in alignment with IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n/ac/ax standards.
- Create and maintain professional network diagrams in Microsoft Visio to support architecture, deployment, and troubleshooting efforts.
Operations & Troubleshooting
- Provide Tier III network support for LAN/WAN environments, including isolation and remediation of advanced routing, switching, and RF issues.
- Configure, troubleshoot, and optimize advanced routing and transport technologies, including OSPF, MPLS, L2VPN, VPWS, MACsec encryption, and Q-in-Q tunneling.
- Conduct research and development on emerging network technologies, tools, and architectures to improve performance, security, and operational efficiency.
Collaboration & Standards
- Work with senior engineers to refine and implement network standards, SOPs, and configuration baselines.
- Collaborate with vendors, clients, and internal teams to deliver secure and stable network solutions.
- Mentor junior engineers and technicians in survey methodology, deployment standards, and troubleshooting best practices.
Requirements:
- Minimum 8 years of hands-on experience designing, configuring, deploying, and troubleshooting Cisco enterprise LAN/WAN networks, including Layer 2 and Layer 3 architecture (VLANs, STP, ACLs, VPNs, EtherChannel, firewalls, and routing protocols)
- Minimum 2 years of hands-on experience deploying, managing, and troubleshooting Cisco enterprise wireless networks, including wireless LAN controllers, APs, RF spectrum analysis and implementation of IEEE 802.11 wireless standards.
- Proficiency in advanced routing and transport technologies including OSPF, MPLS, VPWS, and MACsec
- Proficiency in Microsoft Visio
- Active CCNA Required (CCNP preferred)
- SEC+ Required
- Up to 25% travel
- Active Secret Clearance
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience using wireless site survey tools such as Ekahu, NetAlly AirCheck, or other similar platforms.
- Experience and understanding of remote management and monitoring capabilities such as Cisco DNA or Solar Winds
- Experience with point-to-point RF antenna systems.
- Prior work in DoD, federal, or other high-security environments with strict compliance requirements.
