Responsibilities

  • Perform testing of sites with test equipment when performing maintenance and/or repairs.
  • Perform installation of LMR antennas, microwave dishes/systems, mounts, cable ladders, cable, and other supporting devices.
  • Install LMR equipment including fiber, coax, Ethernet and supporting devices on towers and shelters according to industry standards.
  • Analyze tower sites and identify deficiencies/areas that require correction/repair.
  • Perform routine and special circumstance tower maintenance as instructed by the local CBP Supervisor when required.
  • Assist in new tower construction, tower decommissioning and tower modification.
  • Operate articulating man lifts and heights up to 200 feet.
  • Work with Field Support tower technicians to complete installations in a safe, effective manner while performing maintenance tasks.
  • Ensure that Job Hazard Assessment (JHA) requirements and pre-climb check lists are identified, documented, and followed as directed by ITTD's Technical Representative.
  • LMR duties as assigned/not limited to:
    • Identify tactical communication requirements and prepare the design and development documents for wireless and wired tactical communication equipment/system installation.
    • Conduct site surveys and analyze results; report findings as requested.
    • Develop test and evaluation procedures for the TACCOM Lab with TACCOM and Office of Information and Technology (OIT) engineers.
    • Develop site-specific tactical communication technical documentation (i.e., Cabling Requirements Document, Design Drawings, Rough Order of Magnitude (ROM) Estimate and Bill of Materials (BOM).
    • Perform tactical communications layout, installation, integration, testing, programming, and troubleshooting for tower fixed network and facilities LMR equipment. Installations may include the mounting and grounding of antennas, mounts, cable ladders, cable, and other supporting devices.
    • Contribute by doing price research to present to the Government business managers for the development of Independent Government Cost Estimates (IGCE), and contribute as requested by the Government business managers on Statements of Work (SOW).
    • Assist with equipment inventory management and coordinating shipping in support of particular projects.
    • Make system modifications to adapt electronic and communication operations for specific projects and/or locations.
    • Install tactical communications equipment, fiber, coax, Ethernet and supporting devices on towers and shelters according to industry standards.
    • Manage the schedule for the TACCOM LMR Lab
    • Provide quality assurance and control for Lab Testing documentation, including the creation of test plan templates.
    • Act as the lead technical writer and coordinate communications on Lab activities across the enterprise.
    • Other tasks as assigned by COR. Such as, but not limited to: equipment staging support, RF site visits, etc.

Qualifications

  • Graduated High School or GED.
  • Minimum three (3) years of experience working as a field service specialist with tower climber/tower worker experience, performing tower maintenance and antenna/equipment installation on towers.
  • Experience working as a tower climber / tower worker with at least 5 climbs of towers greater than 200 ft. in height. Able to climb towers and structures up to 600 feet high.
  • Experience in working as a tower climber/tower worker on energized towers and be equipped to perform tasks on towers of various sizes.
  • Experience repairing and maintaining P25 infrastructure equipment.
  • Experience in microwave backhaul, analyzing tower sites and identifying deficiencies/areas that require correction/repair.
  • Certified (or able to be certified) in accordance with OSHA Regulations and ANSI/TIA Standards.
  • Holds (or able to obtain) a Comtrain Competent Climber/Rescuer certification.
  • Must meet OSHA Regulations and ANSI/TIA Standards.
  • Ability to climb ladders and steep staircases.
  • Ability to work in remote and challenging locations including, but not limited to rooftops, confined spaces, and all types of geographic locations.
  • Ability to work outdoors in all types of weather conditions.
  • Must be able to pass a DHS Customs and Border Protections Background Investigation.

Desired Qualifications:
  • Active Security Clearance.
  • Experience with at least 5 climbs on energized towers.
  • Current DHS Customs and Border Protections Background Investigation.
  • Experience working for DHS Customs and Border Protections as a tower climber or technician.
