Firebird AST is seeking an onsite Secret cleared Mid-Level Tactical Support Engineer in Cannon AFB, New Mexico to provide technical and analytical mission planning, execution, and post-mission system support to SOCOM units.

This is for a pending contract; contract award is anticipated in July 2025.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Provide system support services in five (5) major areas:
    • Tactical Software Support
    • Mapping
    • Imagery and Geospatial Information System Support
    • Tactical Network Administration Support
    • Training Support
    • Enhancement and Upgrade Support
  • Support the units to which they are assigned by leading/training, mentoring, and supervising Mid-Level Support Engineers.
  • Support development, test, and training requirements associated with Battlefield Airman Technical Integration Support Center activities; all such activities will remain within the scope of this PWS, as applicable to the unit/org they support.
  • Coordinate real time specific mission requirements with Government POC, Authority to Operate (ATO), STIGs and ATCs command wide.
  • Support meetings with other US Government agencies, as required, to expand capabilities and coordinate/update deployment techniques, also ensure interoperability with Special Tactics operational partners.
  • Work with assigned Component with the integration of new and upcoming technologies/systems such as coordinating with USSOCOM TACLAN Program for latest technology and generating field test criteria as applicable for the assigned SOF Component.
  • Lead strategic planning and integration group for assigned SOF Component and coordinate daily activities with unit WEPTAC offices.
  • Maintain hosted TAK server(s) and ensures mission data is accurate and current SEs assess viability of equipment issued and recommends STIGs / courses of action.
  • Provide Help Desk Tier 1, 2, and 3 Support.
  • Collect, process, and analyze GIS data from diverse sources and reproject and/or process datasets out for use on multiple mapping and visualization programs.
  • Download and process NGA (National Geospatial- Intelligence Agency) data to stay compliant with FAA (Federal Aviation Administration) regulations and standards as well as process, compile, create and validate Special Operations Aviation (SOA) aircraft map data, as applicable, to the assigned Components. Senior level support engineers routinely provide training to home station, operational and deployed units.
  • Some training and test sites may require Support engineers to wear appropriate tactical personal protective equipment (PPE) (multicam protective combat uniform (PCU), footwear, eye protection, etc.), in such cases the required equipment will be Government provided.
  • Develop and generate the training syllabus as well as assist in training of all fielded software/hardware and other mission planning components.
  • Other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED
  • 7+ years of SOCOM experience
  • Active DoD Secret clearance with ability to obtain TS/SCI
  • Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or other related discipline; OR the equivalent technical training with experience that aligns directly to the duties to be performed in lieu of degree for specific user units
  • Minimum of 7 years operational experience with or supporting an organizations navigation and mission planning techniques including preparation and check out of flight plans for aircraft weapons systems OR mission planning computer systems, communications, mission equipment, and planning techniques including preparation of unit mission plans for conduct of peacetime and wartime special operations missions
  • DoD 8570 IAT Level 2, or higher certification (IE: Security +)
  • Other, customer- specific planning & execution software applications
  • Experience with the assigned Components tactical Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and mission guides
  • Knowledge of assigned Components operations and tactics
  • Excellent writing communication and reporting skills
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment background investigation, drug screening and periodic random drug screening throughout the duration of employment
  • U.S. Citizenship

PREFERRED
  • Active DoD Top Secret clearance with SCI eligibility.

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical journals, reports, policy, legal documents, etc.
  • Ability to prepare reports and presentations to company management and customer(s)
  • Demonstrated leadership ability, strategic and innovative thinker, and passion for the mission
  • Ability to identify and solve problems
  • Excellent organization and time management skills

EDUCATION
  • Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or other related discipline; OR the equivalent technical training with experience that aligns directly to the duties to be performed in lieu of degree for specific user units.
