Description
The DarkStar Group, a GRVTY Company is seeking a Python Developer with a TS/SCI + Poly clearance (applicable to this customer) to join one of our top projects in Chantilly, VA. THE PROJECT
The DarkStar Group's team provides tactical data engineering solutions. We embed skilled Data Engineers, Data Scientists, and ETL Developers directly into intelligence analyst groups to be their go-to data wranglers. We develop new tools, code, and services to execute data engineering activities. Our engineers work to collect, process, and feed analytic tools, turning data into intelligence in response to immediate mission needs, with direct impact on real world situations. You will see your work used here on a daily basis, and you'll have the opportunity to support a variety of Sponsor mission organizations and mission partner organizations.
This is a time of development and growth on the program, with an increasing number of missions being supported. The work is high impact and important, and the customer moves quickly. The environment is fast-paced, flexible, and open to innovation - you'll have more latitude here in choosing how to achieve results than on many other projects. The customer cares more about what you can do as opposed to your years of experience, and work hours are typically quite flexible - roll up your sleeves, get things done, and no one cares much about the specific hours that you work. The work space itself is also quite nice, and there is an excellent cafeteria!
The tech stack on this team is rather huge and includes Python (Pandas, numpy, scipy, scikit-learn, standard libraries, etc.), Python packages that wrap Machine Learning (packages for NLP, Object Detection, etc.), Linux, AWS/C2S, Apache NiFi, Spark, pySpark, Hadoop, Kafka, ElasticSearch, Solr, Kibana, neo4J, MariaDB, Postgres, Docker, Puppet, and many others.
Work on this program takes place in Chantilly, VA, McLean, VA and in various field offices throughout Northern VA (we cannot support remote work) and requires a TS/SCI + Polygraph clearance (acceptable to this customer).

THE ROLE
- The Python Developer works as part of a team to implement functionality as part of multiple efforts to build data processing applications while taking ownership of architectural design components, technical implementations, and the software development lifecycle. A successful developer will be able to implement functionality to interface with an existing system, as well as writing new functionality to interface with various open-source tools. Knowledge of the software development lifecycle is a must, as the developer will help translate requirements into user stories to be implemented as part of a team. As part of the implementation phase, the developer is expected to include automated tests as part of the CI/CD pipeline to validate the code that is being written. Knowledge of the cloud software deployment process is also key, including familiarity with parallel processing in Python, large data processing using packages such as PySpark, and optimizing Python code for deployment as part of a containerized architecture.
- Work with the Chief Engineer and Technical Leads to translate requirements into user stories to incorporate new functionality into various software applications
- Lead development of software components in support of various Python-based data processing applications
- Lead work decomposition and development architectural design for components as part of a larger software development system
- Build with automated testing frameworks to ensure code quality and robust CI/CD deployment processes
- Experience developing web APIs to interface with cloud applications and databases as part of cloud native software applications
- Experience working as part of an Agile team to deliver software iteratively
- Experience integrating Python code into Docker containers as part of a distributed architecture.
- Experience designing software application components independently based on requirements
- Experience leading discussions with customer stakeholders to align on requirements and technical implementations
Required Skills
- 7+ years' demonstrated experience with:
- Data Processing Python Libraries such as PySpark, Pandas and Numpy
- Experience with API development in Python using Python libraries such as FastAPI
- Experience with Unit Testing Frameworks in PyTest and Mocking
Desired Skills (Optional)
- Experience with Python ORM tools for database as code such as SQLAlchemy
- Experience deploying containerized Python code using Docker on cloud platforms such as AWS
