GENERAL POSITION DESCRIPTION

SiloSmashers is seeking a highly experienced Sr. Systems Engineer to join its growing contract supporting a federal agency.

The government customer requires the expertise of an experienced Sr. Systems Engineer to support multiple engineering initiatives across all areas of the division. Specifically, the government customer is looking for a Sr. Systems Engineer with deep technical knowledge and extensive experience supporting multiple, concurrent, engineering projects and initiatives through to completion. In addition, the Sr. Systems Engineer must have demonstrated success working with and supporting geographically dispersed engineering and IT teams, while supporting engineering initiatives through the entire systems development lifecycle to completion.

The Sr. Systems Engineer is a matrixed role supporting multiple projects and the successful candidate is expected to have the wherewithal to prioritize, clearly communicate, plan, and tightly coordinate with a variety of stakeholders, while supporting day-to-day engineering tasks to completion. In addition, the successful candidate will have had demonstrated success supporting and working with a team of systems, network, and cloud engineers and architects. A high level of emotional intelligence, awareness, and an ability to rapidly “read the room,” is critically required to understand and adapt to a wide variety of environmental dynamics and to ensure maximum effectiveness and efficiency in supporting the customer.

QUALIFICATIONS:
• Proven success simultaneously supporting a diverse team and multiple work activities
• Provide Sr. Systems Engineering support to the engineering team, ensuring the timely and successful implementation and completion of projects.
• Strong understanding of Active Directory, including a deep understanding of Group Policy and DNS.
• Knowledge of virtualization technologies.
• Microsoft 365 Platform experience.
• Strong understanding of Microsoft Authentication workflows and protocols.
• Experience supporting and maintaining Microsoft Active Directory Federation Services (ADFS).
• Demonstrated experience supporting IT projects for federal clients, with an emphasis on system, network, cloud, and security engineering.
• Experience designing, implementing, and managing systems for federal agencies in accordance with government policies and standards.
• Experience with the support and maintenance of load balancers.
• Strong understanding of PKI, including certificate issuance maintenance and Smartcard authentication.
• Experience implementing Identity and Access Management (IAM) solutions and zero-trust architecture.
• Understanding and implementation experience with Virtual Desktops.
• Experience with system performance optimization, capacity planning, and monitoring using tools like Splunk, SolarWinds.
• Understanding of networking concepts and secure network design tailored to secure government systems.
• Strong knowledge of patch management strategies for both Microsoft and RHEL
• Familiarity with network troubleshooting tools (e.g., Wireshark) and government-approved monitoring systems.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Ability to implement and secure EntraID, Exchange, and SharePoint Online.
• Experience implementing DLP solutions.
• Experience implementing and supporting EDR solutions such as Defender and/or CrowdStrike.
• Experience with implementation of Intune including all aspects of support including compliance policies, device configuration profiles, and Windows Autopilot.
• Ability to troubleshoot authentication issues at an engineering level. Including a deep understanding of SAML, OIDC, and modern authentication.
• Experience supporting and maintaining Microsoft Entra Connect.
• Strong understanding and implementation experience with Azure Virtual Desktop. Ability to support a large multi-tenant deployment.
• Experience with Nerdio management layer.
• Knowledge of containerization tools (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).
• Proficiency in automation tools to meet DHS S&T requirements.
• Hands-on experience with federal cloud platforms such as AWS GovCloud, Azure Government, or FedRAMP solutions.
• Understanding of cloud-specific security measures (e.g., cloud encryption, IAM, FedRAMP controls).
• Knowledge of government-specific security requirements and frameworks (e.g., Continuous Diagnostics and Mitigation (CDM), NIST 800-171).
• Experience with government-approved security tools such as Tenable, Splunk, or CrowdStrike.

• Inherent experience with collaborating with cross-functional teams within the organization, and other offices to ensure the integration and compatibility of IT solutions with other IT systems and applications.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS
• Must be a U.S. Citizen
• Bachelor’s Degree
• Top Secret/SCI clearance
• At least 15 years in a Sr. Systems Engineer role
• Microsoft certification or CompTIA Security+ CE certification

Preferred:
• Current or previously held DHS Suitability
• Currently supporting DHS Component
