We are seeking a highly motivated Airspace Integration SME to support our USAF contract on Kirtland AFB, NM. This project is in support of the Headquarters, Air Force Safety Center, Aviation Safety Division (HQ AFSEC/SE). The Airspace Integration SME supports the Aviation Safety Division ' s mission to preserve warfighting capability through prevention of aviation mishaps, injuries and fatalities.

We are seeking a highly motivated Airspace Integration SME to support our USAF contract on Kirtland AFB, NM. This project is in support of the Headquarters, Air Force Safety Center, Aviation Safety Division (HQ AFSEC/SE). The Airspace Integration SME supports the Aviation Safety Division ' s mission to preserve warfighting capability through prevention of aviation mishaps, injuries and fatalities.
Responsibilities
- Comply with DoDI 6055.01 DoD Safety and Occupational Health (SOH) Program, DoDI 6055.07 Mishap Notification, Investigation, Reporting, and Record Keeping, AFI 91-202 US Air Force Mishap Prevention Program, and AFMAN AFI 91-204 Safety Investigations and Reports, and AFMAN 91-223 Aviation Safety Investigations and Reports to accomplish the required mission
- Act as Airspace Subject Matter Expert on National Airspace System (NAS) integration for Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS)
- Maintain a database and conduct analysis on aviation hazards involving manned and unmanned systems throughout the Air Force (Controlled Movement Area Violations, Hazardous Air Traffic Reports, Near Mid-Air Collisions, etc.)
- Conduct research using Air Force Safety Automated System (AFSAS) historical data
- Provide monthly report on USAF involvement in air traffic situations in the NAS
- Attend conferences/meeting in person and virtually as applicable to airspace and UAS operations (approximately six annually)
- Review, assess, and coordinate on Safety Assessment Report (SAR) packages or other similar products for RPA National Airspace (NAS) integration
- Identify common problem areas and potential solutions for Government and non-Government RPA and Small Unmanned Aerial Systems (sUAS) users
- Collaborate on RPA and other aviation safety maintenance and operations related issues with Government and industry experts
- Provide RPA and other aviation safety support for Military Flight Operations Quality Assurance (MFOQA), Airman Safety Action Program (ASAP), Line Operations Safety Audit (LOSA), and other proactive safety programs
- Assist with analysis and identification of RPA and other aviation mishap trends, development of safety data products and reports for AFSEC and senior USAF leaders
- Respond to RPA and other aviation safety taskers, safety briefings, and presentations for AFSEC staff and higher headquarters
- Support safe expansion of RPA and sUAS operations for major commands, combatant commands, and other units
- Recommend solutions for gaps, limitations, or deficiencies discovered during aviation safety investigations and/or system safety analysis
Requirements
- Active Secret security clearance
- This position requires the successful applicant to obtain and maintain the required security clearance or other authorization(s) within the necessary timeframe required by applicable contract(s).
- Bachelor's Degree
- Five (5) years aviation experience with a previous (within the last five (5) years) or current aeronautical rating or air traffic control background
Schedule
- 7:30am - 4:30pm M-F
- You can flex time during the 2 week pay cycle - avoid using PTO for appointments
