Senior Python Developer
Location: Herndon/Chantilly, VA
Clearance Required: TS/SCI with Full Scope Polygraph (FSP)
Position Type: Full-Time, On-Site
Salary Range: $230,000 – $250,000
We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Senior Python Developer to lead the development and architectural design of advanced data processing applications in support of a high-impact federal mission. The ideal candidate will be responsible for designing software components, overseeing technical implementations, and contributing to full lifecycle development within an Agile, cloud-native environment.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with the Chief Engineer and Technical Leads to translate mission requirements into user stories and scalable software solutions.
- Lead the design and development of core software components for Python-based data processing applications.
- Drive work decomposition and contribute to architectural design as part of a broader software engineering effort.
- Implement automated test frameworks (e.g., PyTest) to ensure high-quality, reliable CI/CD pipelines.
- Develop robust web APIs using FastAPI to interface with cloud-hosted applications and relational or non-relational databases.
- Integrate and optimize Python code within Docker containers in a distributed, containerized architecture.
- Work in Agile development cycles, guiding team collaboration and iterative software delivery.
- Engage directly with customer stakeholders to define technical requirements and align on implementation strategies.
- Mentor junior developers and support ongoing process improvement in the development pipeline.
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications:
- 7+ years of professional experience in Python development and data processing.
- Deep expertise with Python data processing libraries such as PySpark, Pandas, and NumPy.
- Strong experience with API development using FastAPI or similar frameworks.
- Proficiency in test-driven development using PyTest and mocking libraries.
- Advanced understanding of cloud-native software architectures and containerized deployment models.
- Proven ability to independently design software components based on mission requirements.
- Excellent communication skills, with experience leading technical discussions and stakeholder engagement.
- Bachelor's Degree
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with Python ORM libraries such as SQLAlchemy.
- Familiarity with deploying containerized Python applications using Docker on AWS or other cloud platforms.
Eligibility:
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for employer sponsorship, now or at any time in the future.
- Active TS/SCI with Full Scope Polygraph (FSP) clearance is required for this role.

Salary for this position is determined by various factors, including but not limited to location, the candidate’s particular combination of knowledge, skills, competencies, and experience, as well as contract-specific affordability and organizational requirements.
Proposed Salary Range: $230,000 – $250,000
